2pac's image >>>>>>>>> 2pac the rapper

There is no record of anyone, any hip hop media house, any hip hop journalist or any hip hop publication ever referring to 2Pac as a 'great rapper' or among the greats at any point before he died. Yet we supposed to believe revisionist children born in 1995 that pac was great. Most overrated rapper ever, especially after death.

If we're being 100% honest....all of them. Overrated just has an immediate negative connotation to most people but, to what the word really means, death added to the fame and renown of all of these dudes. That's not meant to denigrate the quality of their music, I'm just talking generally. I'll take the negs if cats feel it's necessary:yeshrug:
Another thing thats overrated is Pac and Biggie being "prophets". Especially Pac. he spent a lot of time thinking about death, and inviting that energy into his life.

Yeah the prophet shyt was ridiculous. Any active gangster out on the streets could reasonably predict that he might die soon. That doesn’t make them fukking prophets. I was a Pac fan, but people really went over the top with their praise for him. Honestly, he was kind of an ignorant nikka in a lot of ways.

To an extent I think everyone gets automatically rated higher after death. It’s weird. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s juat a human thing I think, to appreciate someone more after they’re gone.

But as far as rappers that have become overrated? Man...I gotta think on it. I saw someone say Sean price and prodigy. They’re 2 of my absolute favorites and prodigy was someone I looked up to even. But it is true that people weren’t speaking about them as some of the greatest ever until they died. But I thought people slept on them too.

Good thread.

Hate to say it but the correct answer to this is big L

Can't say biggie, he had a good amount of work before he passed, classic features, 2 classic albums, tv appearance, sold millions, junior mafia and lil kim albums both great albums

Let some people tell you big L was a ny legend, when the truth is, before big L died he was barely successfully local. His mystique grew because a lot of huge stars shouted him out and his freestyle took off on social media like wildfire after he died. He would be the correct answer here.
fukk. I love Big L but you might be right.
