I still can't believe they didn't try to trade Melo before the deadline. They have no hope, even if he re-signed for some reason. They definitely woulda got a solid return for him; at least one first rounder.
Their best bet would probably be to let him walk and bottom out next year while trading Chandler and whoever else they can for picks. The East is still an abomination, so it might only take 2-3 years to be competitive again if they make the right moves (

I'd like to note that it's D'Antoni's fault Stoudemire's knees are completely shot. Pringles ran him into the ground during that first season. Everyone knew Stoudemire needed to be on some type of minutes restriction and Pringles had him out there for almost 40 minutes a night. Then he turned around and did the same thing to Kobe last year. That guy's a criminal.
