I think WILL be set up nicely for the future with a top pick. If they end up with the 7th pick? All of the sudden you're looking at a dearth of talent. You NEED a star talent from this draft, and you need it to be somebody that can play the 5.

I'm interested to hear where I'm wrong about Smart, though. Because I like him.

Do tell.

I just feel like he has all the intangibles you can't teach. He's a top 3 defensive player at his position right now. He has the leadership, work ethic, and is an ultimate competitor so he'll put in the effort to fix his flaws which really is only his shooting. His size gives you the opportunity to play him at the two, and a league with a backcourt of TWO ball handlers is the future.

It was without question the right pick at #6, and he will be better than Dante Exum... I know for a fact he's got those games against Exum circled on his calendar

He's a championship player.

I never trust FG% when talking about Rondo cuz it skewers the argument. He % would lead you to believe his mid range is decent but he makes alot of layups and gets into the paint....I have watched him enough for years brick wide open elbow jumpers to know what it is...

Like D Rose and John Wall don't do the same?

And I'm not relying solely on Rondo's FG%. Again, watch replays of Cs games from the 2012 NBA playoffs.

:stopitslime:

Rose took 1000 jumpers in 2010 and completed them at a 46% clip. Rondo has NEVER come close to that type of volume/consistency and never will.

Uncertain grounds
:why:

1. What numbers are Rose and Irving going to have? Please tell me so they don't have to play the games.
You act like their teams haven't changed. Rose needs to prove that he can stay healthy and still contribute offensively like he did pre-injury. Irving's stats (at least scoring-wise) will go down. It's the Lebron and Kevin Love effect. Irving's stats probably won't be as good individually. Rose probably won't be either. In then 10-15 games he played before he suffered an injury again, he was averaging 15 and 6. He needs to redeem himself and won't be a lock (unless he's voted in by fans).

2. Again, Rondo averaged 12/10/5/1 in under 40 games. And towards the end of the season, he was averaging close to 14/11/6/2. Even if the team hasn't changed (but it kinda did), a HEALTHY Rondo will be able to gather pretty good individual stats. You don't think a HEALTHY Rondo won't do better than last season's averages, given that it's a CONTRACT YEAR?:mjlol:

3. Stevens WILL NOT limit Rondo's minutes to 20-30mpg.:snoop: Not if he values his job. Not if they're even considering flipping Rondo and want to net the biggest return possible for him. This is the year where Rondo HAS TO ball out. He's the clear-cut best player on the Celtics. Seriously, him not getting 35mpg is ridiculous.

4. Jason Kidd wasn't a scoring PG and he still made ASGs. Rondo is probably the closest player to J Kidd in his prime in today's league. Yes, the Nets were a playoff team but the point is that J Kidd's stats were great enough for him to stand out individually. Similarly, Rondo's numbers will likely allow him to stand out individually, despite being on the Celtics.

We can agree to disagree.

:snoop:

1. I dont know what their numbers will be but its fairly safe to assume that they will be as good or better than Rondo's. Which 2 of Lowry, Wall, Irving and Rose do u see him beating out for an AS spot?
2. Rondo has a broken hand right now. He has barely played with a good amount of the players on this team. I dont care about a contract year. Its not like hes about to put up 20 PPG or go to 15 APG. Where is there room to significantly boost his stats given his play style and all the other PGs/SG/SFs on the roster? The best thing he can do to get a big contract is to play the best defense he possibly can and show some improvement on his jumper and range on his jumper. It's not as bad as it used to be but he still needs to improve on it.
3. I said he likes to play a lot of guys 20-30 MPG. Rondo will be on the high end of that and in the 30's fairly often..but Im reluctant to say he gets 35+ MPG. They want to play Marcus Smart, they signed Bradey to an extension, have been experimenting with Turner handling the ball and used Bradley in that role before as well. Stevens is going to ride the hot hand. Rondo will be between 30-35..sometimes more than that.
4. Explain to me how Rondo will have more assists full time in this system with Smart around as a PG and Bradley/Turner/Green handling and distributing at times. He's not going to be able to dribble around and dominate the ball and find guys as much. He will have good numbers and they seem to be playing at a bit of a faster pace. I also dont see how me projecting him to get a double double with points and assists given everything I have said is ridiculous or discounting his playing ability but :manny:

Yeah, see.... you didn't really say anything there. You CAN play him at the 2, but it comes with the caveat that he can't really score right now. And you already have one of those at the 1... and at the 2...

It's great to have a ball handler at your shooting guard position, but he has to compliment his backcourt mate, and right now, he doesn't.

Now all of this could be changed by a shakeup. I also think he's the kind of player that will continue to work on his game. I also think it was the right pick at 6.

Right now he is a fierce competitor, between positions, and a great defender. That is a lot of ground to make up before you get to "star" level. I'm not betting against him, I'm just looking at the celtics roster, and right now... it's bleak. You need massive moves, huge signings or a top 3 pick.

He absolutely needs a good 3 point shooter alongside him in the backcourt long term

I'm with you about the future... I trust Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens though... They've set themselves up with some unbelievable flexibility going forward.

I have no idea what they'll do, I think everything and everybody is on the table.

I still don't think it's out of the question that Kevin Love ends up on the Celtics next season as a free agent.

Agree to disagree.

You can think what you want. I'll think what I want. And we'll see who's correct as the season goes on.

At this point, we're guessing so it's pointless to go back and forth.

Peace.

Rondo shouldn't have a hard time getting his 5th all star this year. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he got in by fan votes. Wade shouldn't get in by fan vote this year. DRose stans will always keep his votes up. Kyrie just got lucky last year cuz of injuries to Rondo and Rose. Cavs fans will focus on LBJ anyways. Wall and Lowry won't get many votes, they usually don't (they will get coach votes tho). This is a contract year for Rondo, he is going to play on a high level. I definitely wouldn't rule him out for a spot on the 2015 ASG.

ETA: This reminds me of when D-Will got traded to the Nets in 2011 and folks were saying it would be a wrap to Rondo's All Star appearances.

You're a clown if you think Rondo has more of a chance being an Al-Star over Irving. :mjcry:

Thank you for being logical, unlike some know-it-all:troll: who would probably fail the most basic of reading comprehension tests.
