I watched an interview from one of those dudes from Lords of the Underground and he said they still do shows and do tours worldwide a few times a year. A lot of these rappers you think are no longer on the scene get more love in places like Japan, Australia and Europe way more than they do in the states . They might not be multimillionaires but they still eat off music.

I think Mike Jones is still getting some show money once a month. Probably less than 5k a gig.
If you have 1 mill+ net worth, home or condo paid off (no mortgage), car paid off, and making $5k a month.. what more do you need?
F**k all that flossin' bullshyt, f**k buying bottles, f**k buying jewelry/watches/chains, learn to live within your means and you can be good for life

It's really hard to make a living wage on rap especially if you were a middle of the road artist back in the day. In NY if you have a family you pretty much have to make 100k to be middle class plus rappers don't get medical benefits which if you are paying out of pocket is really expensive. Most rappers don't have the catalog to make that kind of money on royalties and publishing so then it depends on if they can book shows which is hard if you don't have the kind of catalog where promoters will want to book you.

Artist like M.O.P., Mobb, Redman, etc can book shows but I would bet most of them would be overseas since unfortunately they support our legends more than we do in the U.S. I remember Prince Po from Organized Konfusion had a line on the Equinox album where he said "beyond my 9 to 5 I write a dope rap song" so it seems like he was working a job while they were on there run in the 90's so he must have a job now when he's not as active in music.

Most artist no matter the field, have regular jobs, after their time in the spotlight is done. There are only a handful off artist that really made real life changing money off their art.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
your best bet would be to look at shows like love and hip hop... that first season people get on, before they start getting checks and club appearances, is usually what they been doing... and you see most ain't doing too bad

someone like young joc had an apartment and a few business endeavors.. peter gunz ain't dropped in 100 years but had 2 bytches and an apt and was in the studio doing shyt... scrappy looked like he had a nice crib and his momma was doing ok.. and so on

nobody was looking fukkED UP in the game... you gotta understand these people made connections and shyt too... it's nothing to get a little new rapper in the studio and have him paying a fee to help him... or "produce" some internet singer/rapper/model for a fee... or open up a little studio or urban store or some shyt

making 50k a year ain't greatness... but not all of them working at sears

if they were wise and saved up their money, than most likely they are chilling it with their family in peace. others, they are probably working at some job. I think the problem with hip hop is that we treat them like they are some kind of real life super hero that have super abilities when they are just normal like the rest of the world.
