A living wage is a wage that allows one to live above the federal poverty line but I think this article might do a better job of explaining it, How Much Do You Need to Live in America? .

These seem to be slightly conflicting paragraphs.
A living wage isn't enough to improve one's quality of life or protect against emergencies. For example, workers won't earn enough to eat at restaurants, save for a rainy day, or pay for education loans. It doesn't include medical, auto, or renters/homeowners insurance. In other words, it's enough to keep you out of a homeless shelter, but you'd still have to live paycheck-to-paycheck. If you can't afford insurance, and you get sick, you could still wind up homeless.

Living Wage Calculators
A living wage calculator shows the hourly rate needed to pay for typical basic costs in a given location. These costs are food, health care, rent, transportation, child care, and taxes. The cost estimates are taken from government and non-profit surveys of such costs.

If you have a car, you're required to have insurance. If medical costs are supposed to be included, then why wouldn't medical insurance?

@Hood Critic thanks for the link.

There's transportation without owning a car.

Most people earning a simple living wage as outlined here would qualify for government assistance.

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
What should a living wage cover (ie. bills) to be considered a living wage? How much money (amount or %) should a person have after taxes and bills? Can a living wage be determined on the federal level or does it have to be determined on the state level?

whatever it costs for a studio apartment food for 1, and basic expenses for 1 person

I think minimum wage should be set by states and even down to cities.

:yeshrug:
this. it's going to vary everywhere, but i think if you're willing to work full time then you should have a guaranteed job that can at least afford you rent, food, other essentials where you live at.

that currently ain't even the standard for mothafukkas with college degrees and shyt:francis:

I've lived all over the country across various tax brackets.

Pulled myself up by the bootstraps.

That's great.:salute:.

But, I'd also wager you believe a person that got an ancient history degree in college and works retail at Walmart should be making 100k/year. Can't agree with you on those views.:manny:.

I would higher you though. Give you $20/hour and insurance.:manny:.
I make 4x before my bonuses.

I'm not sure you can afford me. I'll also need to be able to work remote. At least 45 vacation days a year.

401k match at 50 percent.
100 matching for my charitable contributions.
And I'll need you to cover insurance for me and my son which is around 750/mo.
