Man this thread is what I have been looking for... i need some r&b tracks to get my guitar practice up with (and seduce the women of match.com)
Hear is what I have been messing with recently, add on PLEASE

All That Matters - Justin Beiber
Turn Of the Lights - Charilie Wilson
Rolling Hills - Jill Scott
Best of Me - Anthony Hamilton
Climax Instruction - Kevin Writer
Age Aint A Factor - Jaheim

Anyone got any good r&b songs from an instrumental standpoint

I got a question there is an R&B song that was popular on the radio last year which had a traditional r&b sound for the bulk of the song but would break into a hard late 80s west coast synth gfunk beat for a few bars every like 16 bars or so... does anyone know the name?

On a lighter note,

any new/good talent out in that genre? Any good albums dropped in the last year? This genre is huge part of black music culture, but seem like the quality took a hit since the 00's
Sevyn just dropped a dope EP

Breezy dropping X soon

Usher coming as well this year

Trey Songz probably as well

K. Michelle dropped the best female soul album in years in '13 and it was niche.. Barely recognized outside of small circles...

The mainstream just doesn't wanna hear a Black women sing from the soul unless she can dance or looks like Beyonce or Rhianna...

If Aretha Franklin tried to blow in this era should be relegated to being on Love and Hip Hop Detroit...

This was something i remember noticing by the middle of the 00s. R&B was starting to be half acts of the artist and rapper. Almost every R&B song was a remix or a feature with a rap act on it. Rappers weren't singing at the time of course. In some way R&B kind of did it to itself. A lot of R&B singers were overlooked too. Before Robin Thicke and JT, Jon B was the only one getting in on R&B like that. And he ended up fading away. He would have fared better today.

There's still a lot of good R&B, but the singer/rapper has completely taken off. In the early 00s when both New Soul and R&B was making hits, a lot of good music was being released.

The concept of love i relationships is gone by a lot of young people in America today. All they know is going to the club and fukking.

IMO autotune killed the quality R&B singer.

 unless you sing Motown type shyt the public tends to ignore R&B and judges don't suggest it.

Also, these American Idol /Voice /X Factor shows don't help.

That and there's a negative stigma towards singing lovey dovey shyt to women.

The Temptations would be looked at as some hoe ass simps today

that's true. Now any rapper who can sing even a little, can be auto tuned. Drake, Wayne, and the rest cant hit notes to save their lives.

I'm too young to remember the New jack swing era. I only found out later the criticism it received. Putting the R&B melodies, with hip hop elements. So today its the reversal. This is like any fad, sooner or later singing will be required again.

I'm an overlap of late 90s and early 00s, my favorite time was the Neo Soul explosion, while there was still a lot of R&B on the radio. A lot of good stuff was being put out at the time.
