What "intangible" IT factor is J. Cole missing that Drake seems to have?

people who don't understand this are the exact same people scratching their heads trying to figure out why Rich Gang is getting the love they're receiving lately, Quan and Thugger literally freestyle all of their songs and are putting out better quality music than the nikkas who are structuring flows and trying to perfect punchlines and other bullshyt.
Precisely.

I've got nothing wrong with music with a "message" but if your main goal is the message, you'll never make MUSIC.

Drake has a more embarrassing way of talking about it that dudes basically won't ever admit they feel.

Marvin's Room was damn near a classic song because of this feeling.

Your average rapper is going to sit around and tell you how hurt he is, but will still maintain that edge.

Drake will sit here and basically make you feel as depressed as you once felt and won't feel ashamed about doing it.

Its WAY more raw and sincere that way...effectively making you have more of an emotional connection to it.

Cole talking about women: "I missed her and I can't lie. I liked these things we used to do. I wish you were still here"

Drake talking about women: "I'm sitting here wondering when you will call and I can't keep this front up any longer because its tearing me up on the inside and I put this front on just to keep from losing myself"

Now...most dudes won't admit to feeling like Drake did...and will opt to make themselves sound like Cole...but on the real, I guarantee you most dudes hate that Drake exposed how they REALLY felt on the inside.

Napoleon, you actually get it breh.

It has nothing to do with singles. I don't give a fukk about singles, sales, or any of that bullshyt. It's ability as an artist/rapper that I'm referring

Females....Drake has the girls on lock. He appeases them so they support him on the charts. He knows how to keep them in lalaland and in that gooey aaaaawww mode ....all while snatching their dollars

I tried to listen to Take Care 5 times... There are full on RnB albums that go harder than this CD....don't forget his sound is all 40/Boi-1da

Where as JCole finally gave us a project with other producers ...

Drake has the cac factor. He's "safe" & suburban whites identify more with him than Cole.

where are these songs that Drake has for women though?

Damn near all his club stuff is straight street shyt.

I mean at this point you can't even name the last "soft" Drake track that got any traction in the last year besides "Just hold on"

Cole is having the (dare I say it) Big KRIT issue when it comes to production.

They rely WAY too much on their own perceived abilities at this point and it seems to have hurt them.

But KRIT can actually produce his ass off, tho.

All of J.Cole's beats have that semi-depressed, ultra passive vibe to em.

With that said, I still think Cole's 1st album was his best produced and put together project.

Agreed...but KRIT's commercial projects suffer because of it.

And Cole's first album is so terrible sonically...:snoop: but hey...do you :pachaha:

Drake is always visible, you only really see Cole during an album cycle. That being said, he is still one of the better selling artists so I don't think he really needs to change anything as far as trying to be marketable.
