Where did that term come from?

Dudes who rock backpacks are seen as nerds or something?

Who in the game would be considered backpack rap?

Even Nas says he hates them
" Nas has a dislike for backpackers entering the art of Hip Hop. He and associate Jungle spoke on the issue in the upcoming “What What” documentary.

“I thought rap came from two ni**as on the street thugging, rhyming,” Jungle said. “I ain’t know college ni**as was turning into f*cking rappers and sh*t.”

Nas co-signed Jungle, saying, “No backpacks, no backpacks ever. That’s not Hip Hop yo. That sh*t is not Hip Hop. Hip Hop is the sh*t my ni**a Will used to listen to with the big a-- radio walking through the street"

it was a term created around 2002 or 2003 that symbolized rap like Aesop Rock, 7L & Esoteric, MF Doom, Cage, and a bunch of nonthreatening hip hop that college kids were into on the forums(which were becoming big at the time). Sandboxautomatic and HIphopsite.com made thousands off selling albums and autographed merch of artists that weren't mainstream. Backpack/nerd rap imo was basically rap college kids were into that wasn't really street. Normal guys being themselves. Living Legends were a dope crew that birthed guys like Murs, Eligh, and Grouch and considered "nerd/backpack".

You heard one, you’ve heard them all.

That’s why people get happy when they’re on everyone but their own projects.

Hated it specially that wack ass aesop rock

:scusthov:

Backpack Rap: too much emphasis on rhymin' technicalities on wack beats that wouldnt take away the shine from the rappers's non-existant flow

The streets answer was grafh, posta boy, cassidy, etc...

Strange Fruit Project
Tanya Roberts (a trio)
I thought backpack was pretty much underground alternative hip hop
Then 09 came with Kid Cudi, Curren$y, Wale, B.o.B, The Cool Kids, Blu

I dont consider strange fruit project backpack. Underground yes, they too smooth as a group similar to Little Brother and Slum Village. But I would say People Under the Stairs would be a great example of back pack rap(I honestly hate the term).

You mean Tanya Morgan. I got a dope story about Tonya Morgan when I first met them and was hanging out with them and didn't know who the fukk they were lol. And they were the headliners of our show that night. I was just talking to those guys like they were fans or something hanging out with us.

Strange Fruit Project's album was fire!! They had one of my favorite 9th wonder beats with "special" on that album.
