That's great. What exactly does a Buyer in the Oil and Gas field do?

Would love to get into this feild

A buyer basically does as the title implies, they purchase all of the materials needed for production. Also, depending on the company they will also do some expediting duties as well as sourcing, quoting, contract negotiations, etc but they are mainly responsible for purchasing goods and following those orders from time of purchase to delivery and stocking in inventory. I used to make a lot of side money as a buyer from different sales people trying to secure big orders from us. On my last buyer job I had 2 vendors who would take me out to lunch once a month and cash me out with anywhere from 8-1500 cash for all of the orders I would send their way. These guys in particular I was sending about 15-30k worth of POs to them monthly. One time I had a vendor vying for a 100k order we had and we went back and fourth with this order for a couple of months between this vendor and 2 others. Well he ended up winning and he gave me 2 plane tickets to Vegas and $1000 spending money. I can’t speak for every buyer because I know a lot of them play by the book and don’t accept any gifts or bribes from vendors but fukk that! nikka gotta get this money.

One thing I will say is if you black you gone be the only brotha/sister in the room pretty often cus it’s not a lot of us in this sector. You see a lot of brothas on the production side l, in the fields, etc but it’s not a lot of us up in them offices making shyt happen.

This is for all yall,

How'd you get into this?
  1. Education
  2. Hard work/dedication cliché
  3. Making the right connections and networking
Was initially in the tech Industry when I got serious a out life. But I always wanted to be in the aviation industry as a kid so I slowly put pieces together to get here and worked my way up...pretty quick. Yall can go back to the logging I to the coli at work thread and see I was I initially not liking what I was doing post college.

Education and luck for me.
I was never the biggest networker and I'm still not the best at it.
I've done time as a site manager/asbestos surveyor/estates management/land surveying

My advice to people is if you have something in mind decide a path but be flexible with it as many people expect to get everything handed to them and fall at the first hurdle when it doesn't happen.

TBH I wasn't thrilled with the asbestos surveying job but I realised that it was better than me working retail if I wanted a job in construction.
