I always see a few.
Most urban schools, especially those with heavy Black populations try to have programmes to push kids toward trades, especially when they know a large chunk aren’t going to go to college.

Do they still have 'shop' class in high school? That was kind of a gateway into trade school. Also, nowadays trade school is like Remington College, etc..

I had construction/shop in my hs and I graduated a couple years ago. My construction teacher always said that they needed young guys cause most of the guys in trades are old.

I'm in the sheet metal worker union. Served an apprenticeship and everything. It's been countless times that I was the only Brotha on the job.

The money is out there, you gotta work for that shyt though.

Some of my folks are always telling me to get into a trade but I don't know how to go about it.

I started an electician's apprenticeship with the DOD 8 years ago and was caking. Decided to get divorced around the same time, before I really caked off and got stuck with cs so high that I couldn't function. I was working a lot of overtime and the judge acted like it was my regular wage. Despite my issue that led me to take another route, I'd recommend the electrician trade to anyone not afraid of getting their hands a little dirty.

So I'm guessing a technical college is a scam?

What about a community college to learn a trade?

If I can skip that and be an apprentice me know.

Are you completely oblivious to union apprenticeships?:gucci:

Those TV trade schools are full of shyt. Why would you pay to learn a trade at a damn school when you could be make $18.00+ with benefits in a union while learning a trade.:gucci:

It’s shyt like this that confirms to me that most brehs have no clue how trade unions work, im here to educate tho

Haven't read al the thread yet, but one theory i have is that home ownership/vehicle ownership is low among Blacks that many just dont even get the chance to work with their hands.

Compound that with the single parent rate in our community.....

Btw you dudes doing the salary math are forgetting the most important part of trade work and that’s the OT. Time1/2 of your hourly and depending on the union sometimes double.

If you travel you get a per diem.

You get yearly bonus checks.

I worked with some linemen that were getting 100$ day perdiem including weekends.
Hourly rate was 52$.
If it rained their rate doubled.
This was a year project including saturdays.
Someone do that math...

These aren’t everyday projects you will get on but it’s possible.

Now imagine how much dude who owned the company made off that?

I'm a black man in the trade field...

I'm an electrician in Australia..

the reason why is because employers are racist as shyt and won't give brothers a chance to shine

I had to work factory jobs for a year whilst applying for about 100+ apprenticeship jobs

I finally got a break and busted my ass.. 4 years later and I was clearing 1.5k a week (aussie dollars)

by this time next year I want to have my own electrical company running.. and I'm going to only hire black kids to train up.

black excellence my nikkas :blessed:

IMO as far as industrial maintenance its a race thing. I hate to sound like I'm "playing the race card" but in most of the factories I've worked at the maintenance staff is 96% cac... While the regular employees are less than half cac..

I'm not saying they don't hire qualified black maintenance technicians I just think its such a toxic environment (especially in the south) being the only token brotha on a staff full of deer hunting confederate flag waving cacs. Probably have to deal with blantant and slick racist shyt everyday..
Which makes it a job you hate coming to everyday..

I could be wrong
I worked in industrial maintenance for 2 years...

I was the only brother on a site of about 400 cacs...

.. I heard it all from them devils

Isn't there barely any black people in Australia tho?

Also I couldn't imagine being around that many white people. Have you been to NZ? Are NZ Whites racist like Australian Whites?

Im talking about Carpentry, Masonry, Plumbing and becoming Electricians ?

These are Jobs that can lead to a middle class existence or even can make you rich in some circumstances.

Even though there are some You see too few black men in these jobs. What is the main obstacle(s) that keeps black men out of the trades ??

I don't think I've ever heard of a rich plumber or electrician. But it's mainly lack of interest.
They exist...i have a homie from my neighborhood that has his own plumbing business...he went to a trade high school after middle school....he is PAID...dude lives his life like he's in his second childhood man lol...i salute him
