^This.

Kanye was a great artist but I feel like he's managed to capitalize on Hiphop fans ignorance and built up the myth of his genius off that.

nikka please

I remember a time when no two rappers could sound
alike or the one who copied the one that came before
him was clowned and wrote off as a biter and garbage.
A time where you needed more than a camera phone,
good lighting and a ass to be called a model.
A time where you had to do something of substance
to be called a celebrity.......
Maybe it's this generation of unexceptionals

So Cal
Call me one rapper that sparked as many new rappers as Kanye

Call me a rapper that has 7, all different sounding, critically and commercially succesful albums

Call me a rapper who always tries to push the boundaries in hip hop instead of going the safe route

Call me a rapper that puts songs together better than Runaway, Power, Lost in The World, Blood on the Leaves. His songs are like movies

Kanye is a living legend, and yes, if you have a discography like his, you are indeed a genius. That he's married to Kim, or saying pathetic things on Twitter doesnt take anything away from that. People love to hate
:patrice: Call me a rapper?

Anyways, what rappers did kanye spark? Nobody out here tryna sound like that nikka.

Genius? Dunno about all that but what has made him a universally acclaimed musical legend?

1. He's really good at putting together cohesive yet different sounding albums. Aside from OutKast there isn't many acts I can think of that can say that. You looking at the likes of Bowie in that regard.

2. He shows tremendous appreciation to the history of black music and especially hip hop - despite trying to push the sound of the genre forward. On one bumping track he has Rihanna singing and sampling Nina Simone lyrics over Havoc drums in 2016. The same track is hella misogynistic yet samples the most famous "feminist" dancehall song ever. And it fukking bumps.

3. He's always trying to do something new, despite a high profile. When it comes off you look like a genius. In the gangsta rap era he was the only "conscious rapper" to go triple platinum to rave reviews. He put Mos & Jigga together - now that makes sense but at the time it was worlds apart. He then went on to make a better version of that same album (that's besides the point).

The sound of music was changing but he was one of the first to get back into that heavy synth/electro vibe with Graduation. You already know about 808's etc.

4. He's one of the first rappers to really connect his whole thing. Album cover, style, music, videos and stage show. That level of detail he's put into his craft/product has put him over and above the competition. That's some Mike Jackson shyt.

5. Influence and longevity. This level of relevance would make him a legend at the very least.

I think his key is work ethic and knowing when to utilise other extremely talented people. He doesn't stop. And he'll get other people to take him to his goals. LR is TCD is on steroids and every album he kept pushing - to the point where a lot of people don't like the product anymore but many still appreciate the work and its ambition. Same thing with clothes and everything else. He wasn't always a proper style icon but he got there.

Not a genius

Average ass rapper. If anybody else spit his bars nobody would be praising them. Not to mention that he don't even write his shyt.

0 classic albums. I thought college dropout was a classic when i a was younger but really that shyt kinda overrated, just like the rest of his discography. Now I'm not saying his shyt is trash, but nikkas will have you believing he's dropped nonstop 5/5 albums when his best shyt is a 4/5.

influence. I hear that "he's so influential" shyt all the time, it's already been said in here. nikkas is not rapping like kanye, he is not that influential. nikkas out here like Wayne and gucci, nobody tryna be like kanye. You wanna say he influenced that autotune, naw that's Wayne. You wanna see he influenced the weirdo shyt, naw that's 3000. Point to some shyt that changed strictly because of him, i can't find it.

His name > his music and it's been that way for a while. :yeshrug:

Kangay Zest aka Prostate Monche aka Sticky Anal-Fingaz aka Bruce Bruce Jenner 3rd greatest strength is being smart enough to know that without the GOAT stimulus package aka a verse from the GOAT our Flow Lord and Lyrical Savior Hova Da Gawd he wouldn't be shyt

Kimye Kartrashian aka Koonye West aka Zzzeeus aka Yawnye Zzzest 2nd best strength is not being such a homotional fukk boy that he stops doing tracks with the GOAT our Flow Lord and Lyrical Savior Hova Da Gawd even when he's taken more L's to Hov than Tyga has to life

But Stefanye's greatest strength is knowing when the fukk to not allow himself & his Casper conglomerate to botch a classic record by leaving the song in their hands instead of giving the beat to the GOAT our Flow Lord and Lyrical Savior Hova Da Gawd :blessed:
