What rappers from the 80s & 90s would be considered weirdos if they were modern day rappers?

Both of them were clowned relentlessly for that shyt. Andre to the point that he had to address it on "Return Of The G".

It wasn't the norm at all.

Nowadays a rapper can come out wearing women's blouses or jeggings and nobody bats an eye.

No they weren't

I was actually alive and aware back then ... I need to see proof of this ...

:what:

So was I. How were you into rap in the late 80's, early 90's and didn't notice people clowning the fukk out of how De La dressed and looked? They would get routinely tested on tour because people assumed they were soft from how they dressed and acted. They spoke about this on Sway earlier this week, on Vlad TV, when Maseo was at the Red Bull Music Academy, etc....damn near every interview they've ever done.

PE in 1989:

NWA in 1988:

Yeah they actually were, they got kicked off a tour with LL because they were fighting so much back in '88 or '89. They wasn't starting shyt but they were a target because of how they looked, talked, etc.

Ok nikkas dressing weird ain't a norm today either...

Young Thug gets made fun of all the time, Rocky wore that long ass tank top and heard about it for years. Stop acting like shyt is sweet and normal nowadays.

I didn't say it was the norm now, I said it wasn't back then. Now it's accepted 100x more though. These dudes get made fun of and are unrepentant about how they dress. They ain't trying to clear shyt up like Andre did. People like Young Thug feed into the gay shyt.

Wayne had on leopard print women's pants, for fukk sake, when he was the most popular rapper in the world. Hands down. It would be like if Snoop came out wearing a woman's dress in his Death Row run.

And that ain't even getting into other celebrities like Jaden Smith wearing skirts to school. Like I said, the shyt that was fringe and weird in the 90's is accepted now. You picked the two most eccentric, "out there" rappers fashion-wise to make a point.

@gator_king actually hit the nail on the head, the "regular" rappers back then would be considered weird now.

Irrelevant shyt and you miss the point to emphasize your 90's agenda as always.

Kid Cudi is a weirdo and crucified as one in present day. Why does he have to address it, it doesn't matter. Young Thug hasn't addressed it through song like Andre 3000 but in interviews he's said I don't give a fukk what you think, I'm a rock star and I've been dressing like this for years.

Weird then is weird now. Who are these "regular rappers" who'd be seen as weird now stop. :shaq2:

Young Thug doesn't represent the entire rap game. It's only a small minority of weirdos now just like then.

I don't have a 90's agenda, people (mostly younger people) just get defensive when I call the bullshyt out.

This era made gay marriage possible. For better or worse things like masculinity and gender roles are not what they were in the 90's. That affects everything, including hip-hop.

Whether or not you want to agree is :yeshrug:

I'm not saying Young Thug gotta come out explaining anything. I'm saying he went the exact opposite route and openly embraces people thinking he's gay. If you're saying that would fly 20 years ago, you're insane.

A group like PE or a solo act like early Ice Cube could not exist in the mainstream in 2016. The biggest "rapper" in the game is a suburban Canadian Jew, if you're telling me "Death Certificate" era Ice Cube could co-exist nowadays, again....you're insane.
Wayne wore women's pants at the top of his run, let a new rapper drop "No Vaseline" in 2016 though....it would be the end of his career. But nothing's changed, right? :comeon:

For the record I'm not even saying we need a song like that in 2016. I understand time goes on, things change. But you sitting there talking about "weird then is weird now"....you sound silly.

A kilt isn't a skirt. It isn't associated with "Gay shyt" or anything.
