What should be the dating time minimum (months/years) before getting married?

All depends on how old/mature you both are.

If you're already somewhat established in life it shouldn't take more than a few years to figure out who you're dealing with.

2 years. Most of the couples I know that are married, got married around that time.

My mom & dad got married after almost 2 years of dating.
My mom & step dad got married after 2.5 years of dating.
My sister & her husband got married after almost 2 years of dating.
My best friend & her husband got married after a little over 2 years.

Until both parties are debt free and have a 3-6 month emergency fund in place...living separately in the process no matter if living together will save money.

If both are debt free then I think dating and engagement should be total 5 years. Not exactly of course but around that length of time.

I don't think there should be a minimum/maximum time. More importantly the two should have similar or at least complimentary goals for the future, and you should live together first.

Communication is the most important. If two people can sit down and have a honest, reasonable conversation about goals and expectations then they should get married.
