the current mind state of african americans will not allow us to enjoy new or previous soul, funk, jazz and R&B. No matter how much we say that there are a few promising acts out there currently, it just does not compare to previous generations. Stop, saying we do not know where to look for good music, if it was good or decent music out there via, radio, tv, internet etc, we would have found it. Also, just because there are 3 or 4 decent artists out there does not mean it's good or r&b is alive and well. If you are born in the 90's and 2000's, your opinion on the state of music does not hold any weight.

I'm glad the "I miss you baby...Ooooh I love you my lady... Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah" days are over

it's depends on what you consider rnb...imo it never left, just the sound changed along with " hip pop " to appeal to young euros. now if you are interested in hearing artists with the traditional rnb sound check out more indie artists :manny:

:heh:

has nothing to do with my childhood

has to do with the quality of music and talent

112 and jodeci alone have and will have wayyyyy more hits then these bums

nevermind donnel jones, and boys II men and singers with actual talent

I made a thread with a bunch of links to albums/mixtapes of new/established R&B artists. Mostly nobody gave a damn. I was basically talking to myself in the thread.

Let's me know that majority of people these days don't care about R&B. :manny:

r&b has turned into hip hop. singing over hip hop beats, singers are rapping now, cursing and explicit lyrics stickers on r&b albums, singers dressing and acting like rappers, "we don't love them hoes" mentality in the music, featuring rappers on slow jams, etc. if you listen to a boyz II men album and then listen to the dream's new album it's like night and day. both are jammin', but only the boyz II men album is a sensual mix of love and heartbreak sung over a lush musical landscape. the dream album is about fukking, strip clubs, and pseudo rapping, sung over bass heavy hip hop tracks made specifically for the club soundsystem. both are welcome. but the boyz II men type of r&b is disappearing, and everyone wants to do the dream's type of sound. no one cares to sing like stevie wonder or donny hathaway anymore. they just want to be r&b rappers. THAT is what happened to r&b. i thought the "neo soul" era was gonna save it, but they died out real quick. ahh well. i'm a crate digger anyway, so i don't just listen to the new shyt. hell, i was jamming the "vulnerable" album on the way to work this morning. im good on my r&b shyt....(google "vulnerable" it if you don't know what it is)

Man COSIGN. Ive said it in past post but the lines have just been blurred. You got rappers tryna sing and singers tryna rap. Not saying that's a bad thing but no it's like if you dont have some kind of fusion of both as 'hiphop' artist they aint goin play you. Hiphop seems to have just turned into an umbrella term for music that black ppl make now, there is no Rap or R&B...it's just hiphop or urban contemporary.

Great points,I guess we had to expect that though, these are young black males and females so of course they would gain inspiration from hiphop.....whoever mentioned the lack of producers wuz a great point too,I wuz listening to sum old soul music and appreciating the real instrumentation instead of just sum "beat",that along with beat switches and the producer actually making the beat build to a climax as well as low points....hard for me to explain cuz I don't know shyt about production:heh:...but just lack of instruments and everything is just noticebale, black music is just overall more souless...and I don't just know if that's just from our culture "blending" in more with white america and losing our identity a little which I guess at sum point is bound to happen more and more....I can't blame white folks for the lack of poeetic value in a lot of rnb now, seems like a lot of song writers are learning to write from rappers,or we just don't have deep mufukas like we used too:heh:...not as many nikkas write poetry,if u write poetry u rap:russ:...r kelly had a good point too talkin about the newer guys, lotta the same proble hiphop is having

“I think these guys are good…they have the potential to be in it f time,” Kelly said of the trio. “That’s only if they start to write abou writing a good song. I’ve seen a lot of guys that people say were them come and go. They have to start writing about everyday lif in the game and push you to legendville. If you are in this music in it to be a legend.” As for all the talk of R&B music being dead, Kelly bristles at such believe R&B is dead and I don’t think it’s going to die as long as I confidently says. “I think it has caught a bad, terrible cold. It has I’m the doctor. When I come back with my next album and we are going to be rid of this cold.” VIBE’s full-length Q&A with R.Kelly featured in our 'Big List' issue

Rhythm & Blues is dead because They stripped the "blues" out of it

And alot of these artists aren't writers you need people who can create original content

Because it's in their soul and not because they're chasing a buck

You need producers & record companies who then support & promote THOSE
Artists and not the Mr potato head artists

as well fans who are REAL and support the real deal not the let's get drunk, high, fukk club music that was put together by a magician behind the pro tools
