was listening to Ginuwines Bachelor album last week :lawd: shyt still sounds fresh.

there was plenty of classic songs but to me Bachelor, R. Kelly's 12 Play and Mary's My Life are the only true classic R&B albums from the 90's for me.
granted i didn't listen to Boys 2 Men and Keith Sweat etc or as many albums as most of the people in this thread like that.

:wtf: Mainstream media was all over Frank Ocean's piece all of last year...of all the talented acts out there that got no attention, Frank Ocean is who comes to mind as being tragically overlooked :dwillhuh:...they've given dude MULTIPLE big time showcase performance opportunities, I mean...it doesn't get much bigger than the Grammy's...they gave him 6 nominations for his debut album and let him perform live at the show...they tried their best to coronate the kid...he just happens to absolutely suck live

Frank Ocean performs Forrest Gump GRAMMYS 2013 - YouTube

true, but like i said, his handlers (record label and management) don't know how to handle him. they don't know what to do or how to guide him. def jam is a terrible label for him to be on. they don't know how to pick singles or performance songs for him. he needs a Clive Davis behind him (no pun intended :obama:). truthfully, instead of him performing that boring ass Forrest Gump song everywhere, he should have been doing one of these:

or

(arguably the best song on the album :ohlawd:)

Problem is their is no mainstream outlet for rnb. Most hiphop and rnb stations changed format to hits( top 40) and hip hop leaving rnb in the bushes.

I'm not a huge RnB fan BUT, I've been enjoying relatively new music from:

Frank Ocean
Music Soulchild
The Weekend
Alicia Keys
Miguel
Al Green (2008 album)
Robin Thicke
Anthony Hamilton
Cee Lo Green
Aloe Blacc

and more

no complaints about modern RnB from me brehs

:aicmon:

Fukk you talkin about. Aloe Blacc's last album was 2010. Anthony Hamilton? 2011. 2011 for Musiq Souldchild too. Cee Lo's last album? 2010 (the christmas album don't count).

So what exactly the fukk are you talmbout breh??

Just to remind you, we're half way through 2013 here.

The problem is there arent any real R&B producers out there. I mean people who can actually create music and can craft a record where the music and vocals enhance each other. Now its just people singing over rap beats. The music is nothing more than a generic looped sample that would be right at home on a no name nikkas mixtape or some dude playing a simple piano riff.

When is the last time you heard a record with some music on it that was fukking with Kool and the Gang, Ohio Players, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, or Earth Wind and Fire,

Miguels Kaleidoscope Dream was :whew:

Ive heard great things about Melanie Fionne too. I think its out there (quality rnb) but just the mainstream rnb is more pop/rap/techno driven. I think I have to give Frank Ocean Channel Orange a listen. Didn't want to give it a try because of him being a gay.

@Lord Mecca

if you need more recent releases:

Frank Ocean
Alicia Keys
Miguel
Cocaine 80s
Melanie Fiona

All dropped dope projects I really enjoyed in the past year or so.

Have you heard their recent albums / EPs?

Respect bruh... but yeah I have all of these.

The thing is, look at what we've been blessed with this week:

Prodigy/Alchemist - Albert Einstein
J. Cole - Born Sinner
Mac Miller - Watching Movies With The Sound Off
Kanye - Yeezus about to leak
Action Bronson Saab Stories about to leak

etc.,

There should be at least one R&B release to bump out of all this fire we're gettin from hip-hop.

It's just sad days.

I personally prefer the current experimental r&B then the era of corny boy groups & r&b thugs
