This is why rap is dying. People barely accept other forms of rap. I mean it’s hard for a lot of younger rappers that don’t rap coke and gun bars to make it. Let’s talk about his drill rapiers will be drill rappers at 40 too cause nobody will want them to grow up.

Not trying to derail the thread with a different convo but I mean guys who were legit street guys who transitioned. Nas was an "I know some guys" affiliate, he was never outside like that...

But yes he had street raps and elevated his content from it...
The amount of "legit street guys" with bars is very small. We just saw Jada get exposed a couple of years ago. Even Jay everybody touts, how long was he really a street dude for? He was already Hawaiin Sophie by his late teens/early 20s.

ok, let me break it down...

Most people (not all, but most) got married and had kids in their 20s up until about the 2010s and beyond. Ok, now, if someone has a kid in their 20s, and the kid they had is now in their 20s and having children, exactly what age would the grandparent be of the baby? I'm not that good at math as you geniuses are lol ...... I'm 47. Nine of my first cousins are grandparents. MANY of the people I was in the military with in my age bracket(and some I'm older than) had kids in the 90s and now those kids have kids of their own. My grandmother had 12 children and she first became a grandparent in her 30s. Is there something I stated that's hard to believe or you've never seen? :russ:
LOL nah it definitely happens it's just not the norm. You usually see that when someone fukked up early and got pregnant too young.

I'm from the era of grandparents being in their 60s :russ:

Easiest way I can describe it is, it's about your degree of involvement in activity...

My post history is littered with examples I've given of people I knew personally who weren't street cats, but on the outside looking in, a bunch of people may assume they were...

It's about the level of involvement...

I think for me, as my life has changed, if I want to hear that hard shyt (and I do sometimes), I just go listen to their old shyt...

I'm not jamming any old ass nikka who still rapping bout young guy bullshyt, but I recognize that's more of a me thing...

I personally don't view Nas as a tough guy but I'll say if he was tough enough to shoot at me he was getting the proper reaction 🤣 I don't buy that he'd be prepared for that. This nigha pulled a gun on Envy. Nothing publicized about Nas illustrates him as a tough guy...

From what I heard about Nas he was always pretty level headed dude and knew he wanted to make it out and be a rap star

At the same time there were stories of him getting involved in street sh1t in the 80’s and early 90’s just by association

He hung out with wild dudes including his brother. The whole ill will stuff etc so things happened

But by the time he started getting a deal which was at a really young age he was done with any of that stuff

No, your grandmother just had your mom too late lol. It has never been rare to be a grandparent in your 40s with an infant as a grandchild lol. Being married in your 20s and having a child and then your child being their 2os and having a child is not a mistake. :russ:

Once again, I’m almost 50 with 9 first cousins that are grandparents (4 are in their 60s. ) and a Facebook filled with military buddies that are grandparents with kids in their 20s.

It's not so much the subject matter as much as it is the general lack of creativity and imagination. LAD, Cuban Links, Reasonable Doubt etc are all examples of great coke raps. These guys are all just making generic references to plug this, plug that, move this, move that etc.

As I get into that age range, I think about it too. As far back as 2013, I was saying I wanted rappers to talk more about the industry and their own experiences, and put less on the kilos and pistols.

It’s just not NY

Snoop still on that shyt with crip talk

BG down in New Orleans still on that shyt he been talking about 25 years ago

Some nikkas minds isnt wide open to other topics
What makes you think their audiences even want them to expand?? Yall are asking them to produce music you don’t actually wanna hear.

I heard essentially the same, I just view "street shyt" differently from others. Obviously don't know him personally, but nothing I've heard about Nas qualifies him as a street nikka to me...
