What was it like watching Michael Jordan play back in the 80s and 90s ?

jordan had no rings without pippen or phil

What did Phil accomplish as a coach before Jordan? People forget, Jordan ALLOWED Phil to flourish as a coach.

What if a rookie coach Phil Jackson says to today's superstar "I'm going to implement an offense that's going to take the ball out of your hands and lower your stats"

And who did Pippen guard everyday in practice to developed into who he became? Jordan was tearing his ass up his first few years in the league, pause.

MJ was the first Star who was clearly the best player in the league AND had a sustained period of dominance for like 6 years.. I had never seen that before in my lifetime. You could say the Magic/Bird era but they never clear who was number 1 nobody really dominated. even after Then the Kobe/Shaq era wasn't a clear number 1 for a long stretch. Lebron had a sustained period of finals apearances but was never dominating the opposition.

You'd have to go back to the bill russell era, but that's before my time.

How great it was to witness has already been stated so I'll add this. You know how people hate watch the Patriots? They did the Bulls like that. Is this the year Charles gets him? Will Stockton and malone beat them? Is Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp enough? People would tune in and see if someone, shyt anyone else could take them down. I was a Sonics fans so them Ls are burned into my brain but the dude was so fukking great you can't even be mad :wow:

Like watching Kobe & LeBron play on the same team but as 1 person. My main memory of Jordan was of my dad screaming when he shot over Craig Ehlo and beat the Cavs:damn:

Dude was UNSTOPPABLE

You pretty much had to watch bulls games to completion because if the Bulls were trailing MJ was gonna put on a show.

Nah, can't agree. Since there was nobody really like Jordan before Jordan (Maybe Dr. J) they just sat back and watched him play without really comparing him to no one. Now everybody who does something athletic gets compared to Jordan "he dunked like Jordan, drove to the hoop like MJ, etc.." Hell, willing your team back in clutch situations is considered Jordanesque as if he is the only person to do it.

Plus there was no Internet, there weren't a thousand fukking takes on Jordan and Bulls before 10 AM IN THE morning like now. And all the jack asses making hilarious takes on his career kept it to themselves cuz there was no Coli and they knew they'd get snuffed talking stupid in the barbershops and streets.

You can't even appreciate Lebron's game like that cuz everything he does gets compared to MJ (some of that is his fault)

As a Knicks fan, it was like watching movie you already know the ending too.

His aura when he walked on the court was incredible. Bird was calling him God when Bird was winning 3 MVPs in a row.
It was heartbreaking cause we knew if he was on his game no matter how good the Knicks played we had little chance to win.

when did any elite player shoot 6-24 in the biggest game of their life,,,he was literaly shooting the lakers out of a title

replace kobe with a rubbermaid garbage can with wheels and the lakers win easily

:yeshrug: Lebron shot 9-24 and got bailed out by Kyrie in game 7 of the 2016 finals. Also check his shooting from the 2010 playoffs against those Celtics, pretty much shot like Kobe did in damn near every game. That game 7 in 2010 was an ugly slug fest. Everyone shot terrible.

I was born in 86. I saw most of it, but didn't realize what I was watching until the mid to late 90s. I'll tell you guys a story...

I'm from SoCal. My dad's birthday is the middle of June. So, every year since I can remember, my parents go to the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate my dad's birthday. That year, one of the days of the festival was held on June 14, 1998. That's the same day as Game 6 of the 1998 Finals. I went with my parents to the festival that day.

Now, the Hollywood Bowl is a massive venue. This is how it looks.

During the show, thousands of people were watching Game 6 on portable TVs, and when Jordan hit the last shot over Russell, the whole place went wild. They went wild like we were actually at the game. I was 11, and it was surreal. All the way in Hollywood, in the middle of a massive Jazz Festival, everyone was watching Jordan. This was before the internet even really took over.

He was must see TV.
