i cant believe no one has said this yet....

but basketball is seen as a black sport....yes i realize that the NFL is mostly black....

but the stars in the NFL are the quarterbacks...and they are still mostly white

and the NFL still has quite a few white american players....

theres hardly any in the NBA

Its a very valid point and I think some folks brought this up earlier but were accused of being "militant"

Middle america cacs love college basketball but hate the NBA. Its weird that the NBA still has a bad stigma about it players being called "thugs", "lazy", "criminals", etc

the NBA has to overtake the MLB before it can take over the NFL:deadmanny:
The average baseball fan is 53 :dead:

The only reason baseball's revenue is so high is because of larger stadiums and a 162 game regular season.

Stop it slime, and I say this as a dude who watches baseball on ocassion :umad:

The NBA has a regular season that no one gives a fukk about, not even the players playing it.

They don't have any rivalries( This is what makes regular season games important when they would otherwise be after thoughts)

They have a pointless 1st round of the playoffs that drains all the excitement out of the fans.

The NBA needs to work on giving a reason to tune in to the sport before they can talk about surpassing the NFL

Where are you getting these statistics from? You look into the crowd of any NBA game and see a ton of middle America cacs. The Thunder and Kings would have empty stadiums instead of sellouts without them

A better chance at more teams winning it all a more condensed or competitive playoff with a tad bit more upsets and continue to push the stars rinse and repeat....To me the NFL is declining and I don't even care about baseball to even know if it's doing well or not.

Let teams play defense tough fights equal suspensions but not season long type of stuff.

I must need race-filtering contacts because I watch NBA games wondering where all the
black folks are in the crowd?

Make it to where players can only get drafted after 3 years of college. That would bring better quality to the league, and do away with all those foreigners and 1-n-dones who get drafted in the top 10 and never pan out.

But I'm my opinion. I don't think NBA will ever be bigger then the NFL. The same way that the NCAA has the tournament, but still isn't bigger then NCAAF.

Now what if the NBA started allowing fighting like hockey ? :leon:Completely ridiculous, but would increase ratings. I've always wondered what would of happened next after Kobe got 2-pieced.

The reason why Football and Baseball are/were perceived as more popular is simple:

Eight college football stadiums with 100,000+ seating capacity.
Dallas itself has a stadium that seats 92,000 The Cotton Bowl, that doesn't even have a team or college associated with it. It's just used for rivalry games.

Dodger's stadium seats 56,000. The fewest seats in a baseball stadium is Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay with 31,000. Fenway only holds 37,000.

The largest basketball arena in the world is in the Phillipines and holds 55,000.
Largest in America is the Syracuse Carrier Dome with 36,000
Largest in the NBA is the Chicago Bull's United Center and it only seats 20,917.

The smallest baseball stadium is as big as the largest (American) basketball arena.
And the largest football stadiums hold 5 times as many seats as the largest NBA arena.

94 x 50 feet. 4700 sq feet is the area of a basketball court
160 x 360 feet. 57,600 feet is the area of a football field.
A soccer field is similar, 54,000 sq.ft - 86,400 sq.ft.
The baseball diamond itself is 8,100 (a square with 90 feet sides) and that's not including the outfield which can vary.

The size of a sport's audience is dependent upon how many fans can watch a game at any given time.
How many fans can watch a sport is determined by the size of the field of play the sport uses.
Football, baseball, soccer use noticeably larger fields of play than basketball, and so have a larger viewing audience.

Facts.

The sheer scale of football makes it a difficult comparison against basketball and baseball.

In addition to basketball having significantly-smaller buildings to play in, they are mainly located
in crowded, downtown areas.

Football stadiums tend to be located on the outskirts of downtown areas or they are in the suburbs, with
plenty of parking and space for the festival-like tailgating before and after games.

Those NFL fans look forward to arriving three hours before the game, setting up the generator to run
the 55-inch HDTV, electric grills with the sausages and corn, and the portable fridge stacked with Bud Light
and Coronas.
