All-time list in '94 would be like

Rakim/KRS/LL/Kane/Ice Cube (with Slick Rick and Kool G being possible)

the 'now' list in '94 (depending on time of year) would be

Snoop/Nas/BIG/Method Man/Pac...

Pac was really just hitting his stride around '93/'94, wasn't considered one of the greatest MCs yet, but he was starting to make some of his best work and had gained a lot of fans by that time. If we're in early '94, it eliminates BIG and Meth... if it's the end of the year, they're definitely in there. KRS might be in there because at the time, he was back on a roll. Q-Tip was also respected, as was Jeru, Redman, and a couple others.

I think OP means what people considered top 5 GOATs of all time during that time. Snoop and pac were still roughly new in 1994

Lyrical inferiority on both ends...Thats why.

Mind you this is 1994 not 2018.
@King Brim Are you really telling me MC Lyte and Queen Latifah were better MCs than Snoop and Pac in 94. :rudy:

I get the OPs point but sorry, yall wildin the fukk out if ya got MC Lyte as a top 5-6 MC in 1994 :deadmanny:

No, but Lyte had had impact on hip hop(and helping push for female mcs) along with more work than both Pac and snoop in 1994. Also remember the negativity towards west coast rappers during that time. As big as Snoop, there was still some bias towards him from a hip hop level.

That's a good point and there was that resurging East dominance for a while, but then you gotta consider this:

1. Lisa Lopes had more of an impact on the culture overall than MC Lyte by '94.. Roughneck was nowhere near TLC numbers and I mean the 1st album singles, and every 6-26 year old girl was copying TLC's style

2. The OP was talking about verbatim "bar for bar rappers" and "repping for lyricists".. Plenty of females were more lyrical than MC Lyte who had ghostwriters, and Ima admit I don't know who else recognized she had them in 94. But Pac, Snoop, Nas, Lisa, Big, Brat, Rage, OC, Tip, Monch, all of Bone, list goes on, were all better lyricists than her. She shined hard but I can't see her in no one's top 5. She was a trailblazer, but she wasn't a standout like that

But I got no problem if you like Lyte like that.. I just can't comprehend people were putting her that high up.. Maybe I was sleep :yeshrug:

All-time list in '94 would be like

Rakim/KRS/LL/Kane/Ice Cube (with Slick Rick and Kool G being possible)

Ice Cube achieved more than anyone else up till 1994. He's no. 1 without question.

Ice Cube
Rakim
KRS-One
Snoop Dogg
Scarface

Rakim
KRS One
Big Daddy Kane
Kool G Rap
Slick Rick/Ice Cube
Top 5 in 94, would be

Ice Cube
Rakim
KRS-One
Scarface
Big Daddy Kane

Rakim
Big Daddy kane
Boogie Down Productions
LL Cool J
NWA

These 5 are examples of what a top 5 list in 1994 looks like.

:sas1: How old were u in 1994?
94. :ehh:

Maybe you forgot cuz it was in 1994.. You realize literally every one of their singles did far better than Roughneck right? She had little girls wearing condoms on their eyes for Halloween. I'm not even talking about CrazySexyCool:mjlol:

am i missing something here? cuz half of these names were either washed or on the verge of being washed by '94.

or are we talking all-time?? if so, rakim & kane shouldn't be the oldest rappers on your lists. I remember names like melle mel, caz, moe dee, run dmc, LL cool j being thrown around as the greatest. these guys weren't brushed under the rug quite yet. the newer fans weren't running the asylum.

Rakim was The God. KRS just gave us Return Of The Boom Bap. Cube was the #1 rapper in the game. LL had Back Seats and Pink Cookies around this time solidifying his longevity
. Grand Puba abd Redman were gifts from the 90's hip hop gods. Lyte and Latifah were the top females. Scarface had Rap A Lot on his back. G Rap gave us mafioso rap before 4,5,6.

And Kane was still that nikka although 94 would be his last shining year

:mjcry:
