Pac would be on mine...I can honestly say he was my favorite rapper in 1993

It was odd as hell how everyone was suddenly a Pac fan after the shooting, jailtime, AEOM, Murder, 7THDT
Pac got what he wanted I suppose :wow:but at a great cost :mjcry:

1. Rakim
2. KRS-ONE
3. Slick Rick
4. NWA (At least one member was killing the game at any given moment back then so I just put the group down)
5. 2pac

Rakim was The God. KRS just gave us Return Of The Boom Bap. Cube was the #1 rapper in the game. LL had Back Seats and Pink Cookies around this time solidifying his longevity
. Grand Puba abd Redman were gifts from the 90's hip hop gods. Lyte and Latifah were the top females. Scarface had Rap A Lot on his back. G Rap gave us mafioso rap before 4,5,6.

And Kane was still that nikka although 94 would be his last shining year

:mjcry:

Actually Kane was done by '94... he already had his 'fell off' years, then had a decent return in '93, but then that '94 album was like 'nah breh'... but he was still known as 'used to be the man' status at the time.

I bought Daddys Home and Ready To Die the same day. I remember thinking that I'd play Kanes album last cuz I wasnt expecting much from the new dude named Biggie and I thought I was saving the best for last. I had that shyt backwards. :snoop:

shyt moved fast back then, and that 'old shyt' was seen as being wack :yeshrug:

crazy cause Kane was the man a few years before that

I don't recall rakim even still being in the game at this point.
ice cube was at his peak of success, but he lost a few steps quality-wise.
LL was beginning to be dismissed as old school.
kane was way pass old school. he looked like somebody's young grandpop out there rapping.
grand puba?? we in '94. not in '90-92.

I guess this is an east coast-centric list
cuz snoop passed up cube
and by the end of the year, da brat passed up lyte & latifah

what about the groups?
1. wutang
2. ONYX
3. bone thugs - no full album yet
4. ===
5. ===

Yet if someone put Nas in their top 5 right now there would be no complaints and Nas hasnt had an album out since 2012...Thats 5 years ....Yet here u are saying what u are saying about Rakim and Kane who didnt have such a big gap between albums. The same with Jadakiss....if someone has Jada in their top 5 right now no one would go "Oh but Jada hasnt had a good album since 2004"

U are talking from a 2018 perspective. Bone Thugs in 94 Over Naughty? :heh:

And by the end of 1994 Brat was new she didnt put in work like Lyte or Latifah

Man, woman, and child
am i missing something here? cuz half of these names were either washed or on the verge of being washed by '94.

or are we talking all-time?? if so, rakim & kane shouldn't be the oldest rappers on your lists. I remember names like melle mel, caz, moe dee, run dmc, LL cool j being thrown around as the greatest. these guys weren't brushed under the rug quite yet. the newer fans weren't running the asylum.
When these lists were being tossed around by publications like the Source in 94 these were the names on it: Rakim, Kane, KRS, etc.
