What’s a technology that was so good it can’t be improved upon?

What is designed so well you can’t think of anything that can improve it.

I like the idea of lock and keys, the whole barrel lock system and how the keys are cut to push down on the barrel seems genius to me as a layman. Saying that, I don’t understand how master keys work and if it only applies to skeleton keys.



I also like the idea of Japanese furniture joining with no nails. Not that nails and screws don’t improve on it, to me it’s just another way of joining wood but the Japanese way is really cool and still does the job.

I’m sure there are better examples. Add on.
