WWE didnt give guys a chance to build and develop characters (You have 3 fukking hours), so they HAVE to let them unleash in ring and do it that way. WCW let their cruisers do what they wanted in the first hour of nitro
Not like those wcw cats had personality either outside of Jericho

Would throw in Eddie but outside of that, them dudes really have to be cut loose to be able to get over.
Only other one I can think of who might have had personality back then was La Parka and he had a language barrier. He was doing the most he could with that steel chair though.

Juventud and Rey didn't really get personality until they got unmasked and were given a little mic time. Rey's biggest fued in WCW was carried by Eddie being a great heel, not cause he was killing it on the mic or his personality at the time. Kidman was a typical "happy to be there, work hard, eat my vitamins, and say my prayer" type character that they gave to almost every babyface that they didn't know what to do with back then until he got to the flock. What got them over before all that was what they were doing in ring. They were doing stuff never seen before and the crowd was loving it. Let's not have revisionist history here, they were putting on great matches but outside of a select few, not to many people cared about the cruiserweights then either.
You're pretty much agreeing with what we said. The cruiserweights were over because of what they did in the ring not because of their personality.Personality is not just cutting funny/passionate promos. Its swagger, it's wardrobe, how u entertain the people. Drew Gulak has zero personality. Juventud had a ton before he even unmasked, and when he unmasked and went into his fake Dwayne Johnson phase it was hilarious, and he put on good matches.
Rey almost killed his fukking career unmasking and with the fatigues on and all that silliness. He was over as fukk before that. So stop it.
People absolutely cared about the Cruiserweights, that first hour of Nitro was popping because u saw The Flock vs. Saturn, Goldberg Squashes and Cruiserweights jumping all over the place. People were into all that shyt. It's not revisionist at all because I'm old enough to remember. The crowds were hot as hell for them.
Everybody doesn't have to be Rock/Nwo levels of over to be notable or a large part of why people tune in.
