mainly Windows Phone and Surface. You could possibly lump Windows 8 in there too. The first two however are never gonna take off. the Surface Pro cost too damn much for a tablet. Surface RT is a joke and they've been pushing Windows Phone for ages and the market just isn't responding to it.

i get that the company invested in these products but sometimes you just gotta cut your losses and move on. another product Bing. don't they get that people are just cool with Google. some of us use Yahoo for news / sports and Yahoo has basically acknowledged this and turned their homepage into a huge news portal.

i don't know it just seems as a company you should do what works and abandon what doesn't. perhaps its time to bring the start button and menu back to Windows 8 or devise a way to make Windows 8.1 upgrade with marginal cost or free from Windows 7 just to get people to embrace it.

is this stuff Balmer's fault?

Actually MS is a victim of its self. Win 7 is very good OS stable and pretty efficient. Win 8 is not a bad OS itself its even more efficient but people dont like change. The Surface tablet are very good at what they do but the RT models poor app store hurts them a lot. But I must admit there web browsing is second to none. I may even pick up a cheap surface 2 if there is a deal this black friday.

If cats haven't learned by now, you upgrade every other OS with MS

XP, Win 7 :win:
Vista, Win 8

NEWSFLASH: companies try to sell their products

that being said, when I heard one of the new 'features' in Win 8.1 was a Bing search whatever... :snoop:

the tablets and phones probably do sell. maybe not as much as others, but that doesn't mean they should pack up and go home

to me personally Windows 8 is better than Windows 7. honestly i haven't used Windows 7 on any of my 3 computers since the day Windows 8 came out. Windows 7 is like Vista and XP to me. i'll never go back.

i heard that at one time (don't know if its still true) Microsoft made more money off patents Android has to pay them for than Windows phone. Windows Phone has been around for ages. it hasn't taken off and it's likely never going to. they should just pack it up and put those resources into something like Xbox that's successful.

Surface i'd probably consider buying the Pro at $500 but at like $900 hell nah. its just a tablet. my $200ish Nexus 7 does all i need a tablet to do and doesn't cost $900.

Windows 8 is better than 7.

The problem with Microsoft is their Draconian like approach to things since the XBOX 360 took off and they saw they could nickle and dime people to death. You might be able to get away with that BS on the consoles, but other folks are not going to put up with much of your BS.

Just like the whole GFWL thing...who KNOWS what's going to happen with all those games the 5 people on that service bought.

GFWL is getting stripped from a lot of games as we speak. It has failed and they've acknowledged it.

MS problem is that it's no longer the innovative company it once was in the 90's. All its moves are now reactionary. Its always the last to be invited/arrive to the party and by the time is gets there, all the liquor and weed is done and everyone is already blazed/faded. Apple/Google/Samsung are the new kids in town and there's no stopping that train. Ballmer as CEO, also didn't do them any favors.

as long as people want phones, why should they quit trying to tap into that market?

do you really think with a company like M$, the resources they put into phone takes anything away from the xbox?

the industry fluctuates. you can't quit just because you don't have the hottest product at the moment

Pro's a full laptop in a small form factor. Any other device in that size cost just as much and has gotten poor ratings except the Macbook Air.
