I'd say being unemployed is worse simply because it's one of the things that matters to a person's livelihood. Not having a job or constantly getting turned down for one can affect a person's self-esteem, and it could make someone feel worthless.

Plus, in the case of a man, you see an attractive-looking woman who you like and she happens to like you, now you'd like to take her out but the problem is you can't truly be with her due to the fact, you ain't got a job, which means no money to treat her. It's hard to date when you're broke.
