When did fighting games become so boring?

Fighting games were always best to play with your friends in a room together. Having real life reactions....losing and passing the sticks, or winning 10x in a row while everyone else takes turns. I know me and my friends can't/won't get together like that and play video games all day no more. And playing the computer, screaming white boys, or god level asians online ain't fun enough for me to bother with fighting games anymore

Two things for me

1. I grew up so i dont have a bunch of friends on my skill level to play against.

2. The internet has shown me just how awful i am at these games so the shyt i could pull off against friends and think i was doing something looks bad now.

This. Same reason why I backed off SFV. I dont have the patience or thick skin needed to take the constant Ls needed to get gud.

Fighters are a strange case

1st they are best local not online.
2nd when you lose its ALL your fault, can't blame the L's on anyone else like in other games.
3rd we've been neutered, because of our insta gratification culture and our eyes have been open too. There was a time before the internet where I thought I was SUPER good at fighters and no randoms would beat me unless they whee tournament players. I also could sit down and practice for hours on hours just to play locally. It's a wake up call when you practice for hours play a match online and get waxed.


Fighters also haven't advanced much outside of MK( when it comes to other content)


Playing a fighter and getting good at it is probably the hardest kind of gaming you can do..and the least rewarding.

Street Fighter 5 doesn't have an aesthetic like 4 or 3rd Strike,

Fighting games are my shyt and are my go-to genre of gaming. shyt I even just bought a new Sanwa JLF to install. To the group I play with there's always a bunch of nuance and technical things that's there to learn and do so its always something to improve and it doesn't seem repetitive at all at that level. I'm not even trying to be a competitive tourney player I just like fighting games.

Two things.

Local co-op. Fighting games used to the go-to genre for party’s and get together with friends/family. Playing online just isn’t the same. PASS THE STICKS!!!!! don’t work over voice chat

Second is they don’t put much into the single player content anymore. Unlockin characters/weapons/stages/etc. used to be what kept us engaged in the game. Now with most fighting games single player content is slim with everything unlocked from the jump or locked behind a pay wall.
