Early 90s when Mike Tyson was kind get of boxing. when he did it, and later Nas did it as well, it was a wrap. dudes started to go to the barber and getting extra tight line ups every week.

Problem is, people just accelerated baldness faster. No way you could be paying tons of $ every week from age 10, and your hairline be tight at 40. Most people who did that, are bald now.

I'm guessing that lineups, sharp ones at least, didn't become popular until the 90s

I believe in the 90's as well. I know I started getting them in like 91 or 92 personally. when I was in grammar school in the 80's, I don't remember anyone giving a fukk about a straight hairline.

That's a good ass question though. :heh:

Had to have been the 90s cause you had dudes like Magic Johnson running around like this in the 80s.

Magic had a scissor cut in that pic. Some old heads didn't want barbers to cut the natural hair (baby hair) lining on the edges of their head. If they got an edge it wasn't with a clipper it was with a blade.

Back then round my way from the 80's til early 90's it was all about the fade, hightop, or school boy(0-1all around low cut style). Nobody cared about extra tight lineups. shyt only got serious if you ended up with a "whopped line up" or "soup bowl" hair cut that was beyond repairable.

The mid 90's early 00's brought the Philly fade, Caesar, and braids to popularity and changed the game. Pippen had everyone on their all around hair game with the philly fade. Jay and Nas popularized the bald and mid to low Caeser with line ups. Iverson brought the Philly fade back in the game and later added braids with the sharp line up.

Honorable mentions go to super sharp line mid late 90's bigen trio Jamie Foxx, Steve Harvey, and Cedric The Entertainer.
