I heard Ether the DAY it came out. I remember downloading the shyt off line via DSL.I always laugh when I heard this. A diss track is meant to go to the mudd.
Same people who say this are the same who are praisin hit em up where 2pac is only talking about fat muthafukker and I fukked your wife like thats clever jokes. even krs one on one of the greatest diss track of hip hop was simply saying "roxanne shanté is only good for steady fukking" the brige is over was full of middle grade jokes but it's a great diss because of the style, the energy and the impact
ether got more facts than takeover and highlights a lot of jay's insecurities
talked down about woman > fact
keepin his mouth on fox p*ssy > well fact
tae boe hoe > fact
dame dash pretending to be puff while jay acted like biggie > fact
jacking biggies line > fact
nas being the father to jay's new style in 95 96 > fact
jay being a nas fan > fact
jay getting destroyed by eminem on renegade > fact
jay tooking the blame in un's stabbing for props and publicity > fact
jay looking like jj evans > fact lol
jay keep switching crews > fact
girls who used to call jay ugly when he was young > fact (jay admitted it on never changed)
and lol at the bullshyt stance about ether is a better diss track but takeover is the better song.
a diss track is a diss track, you can't separate the song from the context. ether is the better song because it crushed jay z plain and simple. look at the central park ether live performance and come back telling me takeover is better. (the energy was phenomenal, even the god's son live concert, the ether performance was ill. then look how "soft" the takover on mtv live was in comparison)
that's like saying terminator is a classic movie but a poor sci fi flick. gtfo, a classic is a classic
nobody is saying "oh the no vaseline beat is ok, such and such... all people talk about, is how cube dismantled nwa. That's the same thing with ether. the impact overcome everything else
It wasn't better to me then.
Its not better to me now.
Never was impressed with it.
Takeover always seemed better executed.

Nas has one flow; offbeat :Jimmy:
