Not really and in no way near the levels it is today. You didn't include a source for your charts, however I can provide endless links(below) and have talked to many older people who were adults and teenagers in the 70's and 80's and nah not even close in terms of the number of overweight and fat people back then as it is today. Hell, all I have to do is look at movies and photos from those time periods to see the difference.

The reality is that people were eating carbs and sugar back then too. And people were overall much slimmer than they are today. It is not carbs alone that contributes to the number of overweight people in this country. People spout that information off a lot, to rationalize why they've cut carbs, amongst other things, but there are just as many people that do weight watchers and other diets that still eat carbs and lose weight too. The reality is that any diet can contribute to weight loss, whether carbs are cut or not. The key is to maintaining that weight loss over time.
