Mods. are partially to blame. They set up rules of conduct around some of the online "wars" a while back. Threatened to ban members for violating rules. Once the rules went into effect, they were afraid to start banning their buddies though.
Reneged when it was time to enforce their own rules.

2015-17 coli was underrated, of course there were still weirdos, but it was a lot easier to ignore and the threads didn't have so much filler. Online communities are cyclical, the newer posters will mature.

I'm guilty of having a long ignore list, but it's part of the problem when you ignore these types of posters because they influence others and change the culture of the site long term. Imo this attitude of 'get over it and ignore them' contributes to the spread of trolls on a forum.

It’s always had some underlining bitterness/anger in regards to politics, lgbtq, gender dynamics, diaspora, interracial with bw and wm, single moms, and relationships/dating. But there was enough light hearted energy, jokes, silly posters, other drama taking place and objective good posters to counter it.

But during the pandemic is when things started to change for the negative in my opinion. Starting with the long ass Kevin Samuels thread… I just started seeing posters who had always seemed okay, start being really hostile. A lot of the objective good posters stopped posting on here. Negative Tweets, stuff about divestors, gender wars, angst about dating, frustration with women just seemed like it just took over the site. And the lightheartedness, jokes and silly energy just ain’t been there like it used to be to counter it.

The 2022 posters didn’t help to be honest— they just regurgitate the negative bitter shyt that picked up on here during the pandemic in the first place. I know posters are saying there needs to be more women on here, but yall run women off. The moment we say shyt y’all don’t like, or even our presence on here as a whole irks the dry dikk Brehs too much.

I notice that the 2022 female posters basically be walking on eggshells trying to stay on everyone good side. Lol. It’s essentially become an echo chamber on here with only a small group of good objective posters.

The forum as it is, does not need new female posters imo. It's embarrassing enough as it is, as a black man. Honestly if the few women I see now were to just stop posting abruptly, I high-key would understand.

The time I thought the forum could benefit from BW was around 2014-2015. Always thought that a brehette as captivating as @General Mills or @Walt would somehow help to balance the scales and shyt. And @Booksnrain was that for me, but she's been posting way less and all female posters try to avoid sharing about their lives as little as possible for very obvious reasons.

A lot of these dudes are getting older now. They’re either 40+ or approaching it, and they haven’t had the life they thought they would have. In some instances, that means not getting the women they thought they would, or being as accomplished as they thought they’d be. In other cases, brehs failed to become the man they’d thought they’d be in some distinct sense (i.e., this does not mean just monetarily), so they use this place as a electronic mancave where they can lash out—and wail against anything they perceive as having impeded them from reaching those aforementioned ends: women, single mothers, accomplished women, “square” men, immigrants, “wokeness,” education, homosexuality, etc. It’s nebulous but simultaneously crystallizing.

Thus, you’re often dealing with a super jaded lot. There are dudes that post on this board, that have a little following or whatever on here, that are clearly broken men. The fact that they say things that resonate with a lot of men on here is indicative of what I’m saying. In most cases, I feel bad for them.

Overall, I think thecoli is an entertaining place, but TLR is like Shawshank or some shyt. You have to have some hope that remains deep inside of you to be reading this board everyday and not get lockeroom-cized.
