2002 to 2007, 5 years or 7 depending how you count.
Let's say 7, which is still half of Lil Wayne and almost a third of Nas.

Technicalities is irrelevant, the point is that 50 refers to 2003 in his interviews.
Someone like Jay and Nas refers to their last album the furthest. When was the last time you heard Jay, Em, Wayne or Nas mention a 10 year old album while discussing success or anything at all?
