When other races separate from their undesireables, they group with their middle and upper class counterparts; not us

It starts in school, and should have less to do with class and more to do with ambition.

I didn’t grow up middle-class. But common sense (and also my parents) told me not to associate with the foul-mouthed disruptive kids that always got into fights and flunked tests. My parents told me those type of kids would grow up to be the dregs of society and they were 100% right.

Good thread. White people have a ton of names to distinguish themselves from “undesirable” whites and they use these terms with no shame.

Redneck
White Trash
Hillbilly
Inbred

Etc… do other races do this or it is just the whites? :jbhmm:
When Chris Rock did it he was hated. Those same people laughed when he got slapped.

Class is more than just income, education, and occupation.

It factors family background, upbringing, lifestyle, social affiliations, network, and values.

You can make $30k/year and still be considered upper class if you were born into an upper class family.

You can make $5mil/year, but if you were not born into the upper class, the highest you can attain is upper middle class at best, granted you have all the accoutrements of that class.

For instance, Oprah and Tyler Perry would be considered black elites. But they are not considered black upper class. We have political elites, academic elites, entertainment elites, cultural elites, etc. They would fall within one of those classifications. But being an elite =/= upper class.

The term black upper class is typically reserved for the group of black folks that are the descendents of the black families whose money originated during Reconstruction, the period right after the abolition of slavery. Or if you go back a little further, the black families that received land, education, or some type of inheritance left behind from a wealthy white slave owning father.

Most of the wealthy people we see in the US are actually upper middle class.

Class can be nuanced and I don't think most people actually understand it.
Great post

I wish you would elaborate even further

you say "FINE" as if you get the point that not all people of a race think the same and then your immediately go into putting black people into a behavorial box.

are you black? do you run to other races?

as an upper class black person i fukk with everybody just as i did when i was lower class :manny:
I’m talking specifically about brehs like Barrington who run to white people to tell on black people, and put us down in front of them to gain favor. They are the kind who feel flattered to be called one of the good ones, and highly desire white friends. I’ll be one of the first ones on here to call out bad behavior, and have been called a c00n multiple times. Discussing our problems should be kept to ourselves.

Alot of black people are enamored with "the hood" and "keeping it real" and things of that nature. To alot of black people living in poverty and living a life of crime is what it fully means go be black (especially in regards to black males). When alot of us "make it" we still make sure to try to show "we still got it" as much as possible to show that we aren't "that removed" from the hood (aka "real black people"). This is also why you have black kids from stable families in the suburbs living the life of "real nikkas" and "bad bytches" because in their mind that what it really means to be "black".
I agree with this to a certain extent. I am not seeing comments of support on articles of black murderers. We are not celebrating black murderers. I say this as one of the “It’s a bad idea to run from the police” brehs.

At the time, I loved it, but it could be interpreted as giving white people, and others license to hate us with an excuse, if you’re referring to black
people vs nikkas, and I’m not on board with us using that word either.

I feel the same way. I loved it until white people started using it against us.

Takes me right back to this.

The Negro Family: The Case for National Action 1965

"It might be estimated that as much as half of the Negro community falls into the middle class.
However, the remaining half is in desperate and deteriorating circumstances. Moreover, because of
housing segregation it is immensely difficult for the stable half to escape from the cultural
influences of the unstable one. The children of middle class Negroes often as not must grow up in,
or next to the slums, an experience almost unknown to white middle class children. They are
therefore constantly exposed to the pathology of the disturbed group and constantly in danger of
being drawn into it.
It is for this reason that the propositions put forth in this study may be thought
of as having a more or less general application.

In a word, most Negro youth are in danger of being caught up in the tangle of pathology that affects
their world, and probably a majority are so entrapped. Many of those who escape do so for one
generation only: as things now are, their children may have to run the gauntlet all over again. That
is not the least vicious aspect of the world that white America has made for the Negro.
