If racism was not a factor, our people would stratify mainly by social class. We can see that is the case in the diaspora and the continent when the country is mainly run by one Black ethnicity. If multiple Black ethnicities come together, then tribalism also becomes a major factor.
So Black people in nations run by non-Black ethnicities have to see ourselves as one people regardless of our socio-economic class, because survival under those circumstances require it. It does not mean we have to accept the worst acts by our own as some general representation of us though. We can still within our own ethnicity seek to separate ourselves from the bad actors among us, because we can't afford to waste too much time fighting a war on two fronts.
We can still choose to congregate with like minded people in our ethnicity to maintain our own financial, physical, and mental wellbeing. For example, my neighborhood is predominately Black and middle class, with an average income over 120K a year. Though the effects of poverty is never that far, we have relatively reduced the effects by grouping together while maintaining our ethnic identity.
