What are your thoughts on this? I was reading the complex article below and a commenter truly believes that there is more to it than meets the eye... and that Stern and his goons are behind the scenes pushing for a game 7 between the heat and the celtics for ratings and $$$. I disagree, the Heat have just been outmatched and outplayed.

There's definitely funny business that goes on with the officiating. It's hilarious how a long-time ref got exposed, decided to come clean and talk about the unscrupulous practices and traditions that have been in place for years, and Stern just dismissed him, claimed it was a "rogue" official and none of the others were doing anything like that :rudy: and it pretty much just got successfully swept under the rug.

I think it has less to do with some huge league-wide conspiracy and more to do with the refs themselves on a smaller level. So its not "Emperor Stern says the hometeam goes down in 6" but more "Hey guys, lets make an irresponsible and irrelevant personal bet just for fun on which official can foul a guy out in this game first" or "hey isn't this player getting on your nerves? Let's send a message to him tonight and if it costs his team the game, so be it." It's insane how the officials have almost no one regulating their behavior, keeping them in check, making sure everything stays "official", so to speak, especially for how much they're able to effect outcomes of games. I also doubt very much that Tim Donaghy was the only one that ever bet on games and got involved with the mob and all that. He's just the only one that got caught.

My first reaction when people say the NBA is fixed is: then why do you spend so much time watching it. fukk is the point of watching a sport if you honestly believe the game outcomes are regularly fixed? Esp if you root for a team that never has the "fixes" go their way?

NBA reffing is ass, but fixed? Nah.

Not totally fixed but its a fact that players are treated differently depending on status in the league

And gambling is always a factor, you're naive if you don't think so. A lot of shady people involved high up in the nba

The Heat are the best thing going for the NBA. People watch them in hopes that they lose....the more they keep winning, the better for the NBA.

Ultimately I'm sure they'd like to see them lose in 7 in the Finals and then restart the process again next year. Once they win, the hatred will wear off imo.

 good topic. Was watching the game last night and one of my nikkas was saying that players be missing shots on purpose :childplease:. My nikka said that the Heats will come back and the NBA is just making the series go longer for story-lines purposes and (money) at the end of the day. he truly believes this.

i do believe that refs are influenced in some way. i have just seen to many convenient calls made that fit perfectly for the script. the crowd behind the frenzy and refs get caught up right in the mix of the cinema. i think this is most cases

but then i do believe there are times when the refs are just flat out handing a game to a team because they are concerned with the advancement of the teams. when you see what happened in that lakers vs sacremento series, or even early in this playoffs when you see the heat get 20+free throws and the knicks get 1 that is someone making a call from upstairs. ratings in the ecf/wcf and in the finals mean a lot in terms of the television deals the league have with broadcasters. i def believe stern and others are concerned about that and in subtle ways manipulate quarters and outcome of the games to make sure some star power is in the finals.

i dont think refs no matter how hard they try can overcome great great playing from a team. but calls going all the way of one team almost always takes the opposing team out of rhythm and knocks them out of whatever momentum they may have had.

i see slick sh1t like refs giving all the calls to a certain team in the beginning of the 4th quarter, but then all the calls go the way of the other team to end the game and those are the calls that matter. but then you look at the box score the foul calls look even, even though the winning team got all the calls when it mattered.

Benefits of doing this and ensuring certain teams advance < Drawbacks if any solid proof ever emerges.

Stern would have to be retarded to put the entire league at risk like that, esp considering they've already had to deal with a ref scandal and people are watching more closely now.

well. they have a hard time officiating.. that's for sure.. but some calls looks suspicious..
however.. the recent Flopping is probably 60% to blame.. hard to call it nowadays..

but if you ask me... the heat/celtics is more cheatings then bad referees..

it's like. Heat finaly decided to stop flopping.. to watch Celtics.. Flop.. pulls arms and do all sort of fukkery..
