I was hoping nobody would say that :wow:

I hear you. Still I dont know if it was really them. If they "helped" me then what happened to a lot of my friends that are working in retail while I am hopefully going to be on Wall st. next year?

I think it comes down to the person and his/her ambitions more than the person teaching. And even more, it is the parents that are more responsible.

A teacher can try her hardest but if a kid from the jump is going home to parents that arent checking his homework, letting him play video games all day and not showing the importance of education the kid going to fail. Period. I actually don't think that teachers are that important for that reason.

We all have our own parts to play and choices to make when we get through the doors, but the doors have to be opened first. That's how I always look at it. :yeshrug:

Self education >>> Institutional indoctrination.

They are public servants and let's not forget the time off they get when school is over.

Everyone in the Western World get's exactly what they are worth. Nothing more, nothing less

That's just not true, hell even within sports, we discuss all the time about overpaid/underpaid athletes, that in itself is a sign that people do not get exactly what they are worth. They get what an imperfect market is willing to give them at a certain time and in a certain place, which is a whole other thing.

Most athletes aren't exactly educated... and not just in the US.
Most soccer stars don't even finish high school :beli:

So?

And what about the various kids that are given a perfect education and still don't amount to shyt because they don't care to?

Even now in school I teach myself damn near everything using my Finance and Accounting textbooks and google. 3.8 GPA to. The professors are useless :yeshrug:.

We start paying teachers a million a year and then what? Is our society going to be overwhelmed with Engineers, Astronauts, and Investment Bankers who are getting paid less than the very teachers that arent capable of doing what they do? No and even if it was it would be a bad thing because we wouldnt have any average people willing to bag groceries at the local supermarket, teach the future kids or handle your tech support inquiries. Society is beautiful that way; it works.

Supply and Demand.

Anybody can go through the motions and learn how to be a good teacher.
How many nikkas can really pull a 360 windmill off, throw 70 yards down a field or hit a baseball 350 ft away when its coming at a speed of 90 mph?

Come on man. When I was 6 years old I used to think the same way you do. Then I grew up and realized that if anything athletes are underpaid.

You all are coming from the perspective that you already have BASIC education. So you telling me that you thought yourself how to read? Westerners are so pampered man, go tell that shyt in Africa on some "you don't need teachers, here's a Finance course, self-education is the way to go!". smh

I agree with the bold, I'm not saying that athletes should not be paid what they are paid, I understand if they're making that much then OF COURSE owners/media/the League are making way more off of them, that's not my point. But it's not like it's a zero-sum game between athletes and teachers.

My point is just that teachers, given their role in laying down the foundation for everything in society, should be paid more given the importance of their job. Y'all talk about home-learning or whatever, but what about parents that have to work, who's gonna be teaching the kids then? Self-education, you still basic things (language, reading/writing, maths) to even do that, and do you really imagine a 12 year "self-teaching" himself? :deadmanny:

Where did I say we need to pay teachers "a million"??? I said "more", I never said they should get paid as much as athletes :dwillhuh:

Again, you guys (as most Westerners) come from a reality in which schools are a given, and you choose to shyt on it ("teachers are useless", really? In your whole life NOT ONE teacher thought you shyt?). I come from a reality in which my cousins couldn't go to school because teachers were not paid AT ALL, and my lil nephew is losing ANOTHER school year because of a military coup. It's just so easy (and typical) to shyt on something AFTER you were able to benefit from it.

It is ALL about priorities. Entertainment, social status (ie clothes, cars), and feeling good (ie medication) are at the top of most people's priority lists and thusly that's were the money is.

The one that annoyed me the most was the dude complainign about his copay. I cant remember if it was $35 or $15 that he had to pay. But he took his son into an emergency clinic and went on a 20 minute tirade about why he shouldnt have to pay a higher than usual copay because this clinic was out of network. And as i sat there and looked up dude was wearing a retro jersey who I'd say cost at least $150.

Sadly, ive witnessed this exact same scenario more than once at doctors offices when i worked in the medical field many many years ago.

I agree with the bolded. But I dunno, I think they get paid pretty fairly in the grand scheme of things. If the government was to obtain more money, teachers should definitely be put on the list of priorities for instance...more than roads and infrastructure and whatever else they allocate their budgets to. But as things stand right now its fair. It's a hard argument i suppose.

I guess i'm just a capitalist. This thread is about North America and the West though, not Africa so it isnt fair to use that notion.

You guys also forget that athletes are a small percentage compared to teachers.
they not forgetting, they just dont know

I love teachers, but there is a greater supply of teacher versus world class athletes.

It's everything. Ambition without proper parenting or education won't do you too much good for you. You can't minimalize the importance of any of those factors. There is a reason good parents instill certain values into their kids and seek to provide the best education for them.

the comparision between teachers and athletes is retarded. pro athletes are the best at their trade in the world. and are compensated like they are because very few people can do what they do at their skill level. and the supply of dudes who can do shyt at a lebron level is very small in comparision to the demand for lebron level athletes.

meanwhile ANYONE can be a teacher if u go to college. I'm sure if u proved yourself to be the lebron of the teaching world, you could get compensated at a much higher rate than the average teacher.

Maaaaaaaan I have encountered so many nikkas who have customized cars and live with mom or grandma, so many bytches with all the flyest clothes and nails and weaves living in a dumpy ass crib and their kids look like they are from Somalia, so many nikkas with the latest J's who "can't" pay child support, house full of flat screens with all the cable channels but kids are hungry. People really been on some other shyt when it comes to priorities.

:mindblown: at posts saying teachers are getting exactly what they are worth. They're in charge of our kids' education and you think it's okay to pay a teacher $30,000 a year to teach your kid? Is that how much you think your kid's education is worth?:ohhh:

fukk outta here. Teachers need to get paid more but we also need to raise the qualifications of teachers. You got dumb kids all over the place wanting to be rappers and ballers but don't know the basic knowledge of mathematics. I mean, shyt, look at Spree, what kind of dumb fukk turns down $21 million? The kind of dumb fukk who was taught by a GED teacher making $21,000 a year.:smugbiden:

Yeah it's insane. And I not even the salaries, but moreso stuff like fines. An athlete will get fined 50-75K for complaining about officials or for wearing something extra on their uniform. You fine the guy that much for something foolish that's more than most of ur fanbase makes.

Yeah, anyone CAN be a teacher, but some people aren't cut out for it and are no good at it.....meanwhile some teachers have the ability to change a kids life. Some teachers can turn a kid from a person on the wrong path INTO a Lebron or something else positive. But they both get paid the same.

When you factor into the equation that a teacher has your kid for 8 hrs a day, along with dozens of others, you'd be much more comfortable knowing they are great at what they do.

Lebron aint doing sh*t for your kid nor millions of others....but making you, the aparent, have to buy $200 shoes.

:snoop: not this bullshyt teachers don't get paid enough but athletes are overpaid. Go head and pay public school teachers what you think they're worth and see where the money comes from...your pockets :heh: you muafukkas would be complaining about why your taxes are so high. There's a difference between private money and public money
