When KRS had battles with people in the 90s (PM Dawn comes to mind) people were always on the side of KRS because the times were more based in real hip-hop culture and the four elements, and KRS was the "teacher" and represented lyrics and all of that and could expose people like that in a side to side comparison as "fakes" and "tourists".

When KRS battled Nelly, the times had changed. It was the 00s. Nelly was the hottest and biggest rapper out. He had tons of #1 singles. He had fame. KRS had his catalog and status as one of the most outspoken and sought towards figure heads in hip-hop and in another era would of had the backing of "real" hip-hop heads (whatever can constitute that now if such a thig still exists IMGHO) and did in that beef. But let's face it, by that time KRS was irrelevent to the pop mainstream audience. He couldn't hold a candle to Nelly on that type of level of mainstream success and recognition in terms of popularity, money, and sales.

It was more or less so a rude awakening of sorts from my viewpoint. It was the signifier that the jiggy era officially ushered in the pop rap era and KRS's brand of hip-hop grandstanding as an authority as a proponent of the "culture" (I put it in quotes cause it really isn't like that anymore and hasn't been for ages) of hip-hop had no place in it anymore.

Honestly, I can't call a lot of these folks fans. They listen to music for entertainment only, they do not care about the artistic elements. They either stan, hate, seek out humor, or look for L's a rapper is taking.

Krs-One was killing them even during the Shiny suit era, and dropped Self-Titled and I Got Next. His music got diluted after that because he wasn't on a major anymore.

But, the get money era with Jay-Z and the South really tainted the music. We are easily seeing the worst era of hip-hop ever, and people don't understand why.

We had easily 30 or 40 rappers at any given time that was killing them even up to 2003 . This era we might have 4 or 5, this is pathetic, and eras are judged by output NOT by hot beats and catchy rhymes.

I take pleasure in knowing when a kid stans Drake, Ross, or the jungle music coming from the South, that they are living in the worst era of all time.

There are 3 people that said Pac stepped to Nas; Suge, Fatal, and Snoop. I know they're death row affiliates but their stories are similar; Pac stepped to Nas and Nas saying he had love for Pac as a response. Jungles side of the story is completely debunked becuse it was far fetched and it doesnt even match or come clos Nas's story. Plus Pac stepped to LL and Chino xl so i wouldnt be surprised if he did so with Nas.
