but I'm not saying the art of poetry or being a gifted writer is a white thing

but I am saying that everything u understand about poetry was decided by white ppl

that's a fact that's not some crazy theory

white ppl decided what the rules of poetry were and what good poetry is and what bad poetry is

yes rappers use words in a similar way that poets do

but rap is not supposed to be experienced like poetry

it's not supposed to be read

idc what nas will tell u about it that cäc logic runs deep

if u read rap lyrics and experience it as poetry you are doing a disservice to the rapper and to urself

Exactly that just adds another dimension and takes the artform to a different level. It's one thing to write dope lyrics, it's a completely different skill set to then make those lyrics sound good over a beat.

Rap is an advanced form of poetry.

@PhonZhi I wasn't disagreeing with ya man, I actually was gona go back in and edit and add that it doesn't take away from your statement about viewing rap as poetry, I've always viewed it that way and that's why I have so much respect for what these guys do, no other genre of music is so dependent on the lyrics, and no other genre conveys emotion so vividly like rap.

Lyrics, flow, enunciation, making words rhymes when they really don't, creating words, etc, the GOAT MCs all got it.
