I guarantee every single person on this list will say they were influenced heavily by Tip's production on them Tribe albums.

I should neg you for number 7.

Eh. As far as production goes Charles easily one of the most influential producers of the past decade. It's actually scary how many cats bit his wave and his style. Dude is a modern day Paul C.

I feel that, and if you have time, put me on to some of his best beats please.

But....

Are you really standing by him being a better producer than Tip?

Me personally no. But its also age range to an extent. We were old enough to see the Native Tongues movement and stuff like that in real time but if you ask someone say under 30 and artists in those age ranges I could see them putting Charles in the top 10 especially when there was a time where every aspiring beat maker was trying to bite his style on soundcloud etc.

Top 10 at least, probably top 5.

He basically put Jazz back on the map.

I know Pete Rock, Prince Paul, Marley Marl, even Dust Brothers were digging for jazz, but Q-Tip was on some other shyt.
Led to the explosion in neo-soul, and most of the "mature" music that's come out since 1991.

Ok, let me run these real quick. :salute:

Edit: I gave them all a minute or two run through.

This is the problem with Hip Hop fans.

This shyt sounds like Charles was clearly influenced by Kanye and Dilla who both have stated they were heavily inspired by Tip.

The beats aren't even that good and we actually in here having a debate on whether he's better than Q-Tip?

Jesus. :mjlol:

Tip's beats from '90 sound fresher than these.

And to compare them to anything from Low End Theory on is just ridiculous.

I'm all for giving young boys passes in Hip Hop, but at some point you have to go back and do your homework before jumping out with crazy opinions.

This isn't directed at you necessarily, but more so to the 1st cat that made the list.

He's the greatest dual threat in hip hop history.

I'd put in my top 5-7 as a producer, and top 15-20 as a MC. You really can't understate ATCQ's catalog. At the end of the day, ATCQ might have the strongest claim to greatest overall discography OAT (ahead of Outkast and The Roots)

This.

Only thing I'd change from your post is he's in my top 5 solidly as a producer.

Maybe even top 3.

As far as emcees, I agree.

The only reason he isn't higher is because he doesn't have any black out verses.

He used his voice as an instrument to fit the mood of the beats and concentrated more on his tone, flow, and word play over being a straight up lyrical beast.
