People put they 21 century thoughts on Jim Crow south. Let’s be honesty, what Malcolm and the nation was facing up north was nothing close to what Martin and the civil right movement was facing down south.
I stress to a lot of people. The south needed a different kinda finesse to win, they wanted black people to attack so they could have a reason to massively kill black people cause the the kkk was ingrained in every part of the government, from the police to the court houses.

Up north they didn’t have those same attacks so they could fight force with force cause they weren’t under the same kinda pressure.

white protesters would come down south to protest him crow and segregation and they would die and never be found again, it needed a different kinda finesse

and for damn sure the nation would not have been able to come down here with the way they moved during that time period without being thrown in jail and being killed after.

both great men that was in different places, that needed different approaches
Great point

The Nation of Islam, under the direct leadership of Elijah Muhammad, had over 150 temples in North America, Bermuda, Jamaica, Honduras, and England
They had 46 Muhammad Universities of Islam
They were importing over 1000 metric tons of fish from off the shores of Peru monthly
They had a fleet of trucks to distribute their products nationally
They had farms in Georgia Alabama and Michigan
They were selling over 30,000,000 Muhammad Speaks newspapers annually

This notion that Minister Malcolm X, when he was in his right mind and still working with Muhammad, didn't do anything, is ridiculuos.

All of this is true and as somebody said was much needed

but Malcolm wasn't down there going to jail or being spit on the way dr king was...

Dr king will always have that over Malcolm :manny:

Black nationalism has always taught that we don't need outside help and we can be self sufficient, so running to the "power structure" goes against that completely.

and look at the video I just posted above of Malcolm after he left the NOI - he still spoke truth to power and about white racism TO a white mans face sitting 3 feet away from him.

Those are fine teachings..... but when you don’t have your own government, military, banking infrastructure, land, natural resource and trade industry, etc, etc, etc... its virtually impossible to “do for self” when you’re a minority living in another man’s society.... and I never said Malcolm or anyone for that matter didn’t call out white people to their face.... I said they weren’t willing to engage the white power structure on the front lines....... the CRM were engaging Bull Connor and his ilk in the fukking streets.... in an attempt to get policy passed that would do away with domestic terrorism in the form of Jim Crow....

Facts.

But before this turns into a Malcom vs Martin thread again. People should understand that both methodologies existing at the same time actually great helped each one gain traction. Both of these guys were black militants but they took different approaches in a strategy whose ultimate goal was to improve the lives of black people first and foremost.

1) those are all of the things that nationalists were trying to get (minus a military?)
but you have to have absolutely 0 outside help and assistance to achieve these things, we can do for ourselves.

2) And the civil rights movement was about throwing armless black folks in the line of fire like gun range target sheets to snuggle up under white people.

This ultimately turned out to be a terrible idea that many regretted, even dr king made statements against the movement later in life.

your avy is fukking hilarious :mjlol:

Folks get a bit of info and run with it. Someone they follow calls MLK a c00n, he's a c00n.

MLK was about integration & less threatenin' issues on the front end. He got more economically aware on the back end, addressin' the financial & labor situations. Regardless of what you think about early MLK, the man they assassinated was no c00n.
