Some regional transit agencies said they are preparing for service stoppages as early as Thursday evening ahead of a possible 12:01 a.m. Friday shutdown. They are wrapping up plans to communicate with commuters if a strike is not averted, and some are working with other agencies to direct people to bus alternatives.
The disruptions to passenger systems that operate on freight lines would be felt across several major metropolitan areas, including Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles. The strike threat also eliminated most Amtrak service outside the Northeast Corridor, forcing travelers to find other modes of transportation or cancel plans at the last minute.
Incorrect.looks like a private business matter....
what does the president have to do with it?
Isn't it illegal to affect the infrastructure of the nation like this?
STFUThis ain't really about Amtrak. It's about the railroad strike. Amtrak isn't going to be the thing people are worried about if this strike happens. Store shelves will be bare. Don't think people realize how much stuff is on these trains.
This might be the kickoff people have been talking about. The thing that sets the dynamite fuse. The world will change if this happens. Especially for United States residents.
It's not supposed to be profitable, it's funded by the state and federal government. Supposedly the only train that makes money is the AutoTrain from Lorton to Sanford, Fl.is amtrak even a profitable business in 2022? can they afford to stop service????
Incorrect.
There is federal legislation that affords the government power to intervene and impose temporary regulations to prevent railroads strikes.
This is not a private matter, rail infrastructure was constructed with federal funding and the federal government has never not had their hands in this business. Biden has already signed an executive order on this matter.
No it is not. Unless your in the military your have the right to strike. This is not the USSR
They don’t own the tracks, they don’t have a choice.is amtrak even a profitable business in 2022? can they afford to stop service????

It's quasi-governmental, similar to USPS, I'm just mentioning this as it seems to be getting lost in the replies, and technically, your initial comments aren't entirely wrong about the situation. The executive handles appointments and executive orders can obviously impact them, congress confirms and can regulate some aspects with regards to budgeting, I think employees are technically federally employed, but a majority of their work is managed at the private level, and the company is expected to run as a for-profit and is recognized as such, stock is primarily owned by the government, the government will uphold the company as a result. It's just a situation where the entirely privatized version of the company wouldn't come close to breaking even on profits, so the government at the time recognized a need for a federally funded provider, thus, the creation of Amtrak, although it's creation and what it does it a lot more complicated than what I feel like typing here, I'm sure there are good videos on the topic.thanks for informing me... didnt know this
