This post BY @I.AM.PIFF inspired THIS POLL

Well, I don't get your point about sales. You talked about inflated props which refers to reception & critical acclaim, rather than commercial performance (which doesn't always mean the Album is a classic). Illmatic went plat and according to Soundscan, OB4CL sold more than a mill. Not to mention both albums received huge critical acclaim and props since day 1, so I don't see how they get inflated props on the coli. You could've mentionned better examples really.

Goodie Mob - Soul Food
Common - Resurrection
Spice 1 - 187 He Wrote
UGK - Ridin' Dirty
Geto Boys - We can't be Stopped

These albums weren't anymore commercially performant than Illmatic/OB4CL but they've been regarded as classics. You could also add 8Ball & MJG - Comin' Out Hard & The Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde as well.

Guess i was correct

East coast elitism at it's finest

you stacked the deck in the east coast's favor with this poll tho.

aside from master p & the geto boys, there aren't any attractive names on the non-east coast side.

meanwhile for the east coast, you posted up some of the cream of the crop albums to come out of the east in the 1990s.

Well the list was derived partially from another poster whom named 90% of the non east coast albums I selected (in another thread) and told me THAT WOULD BE CALLED CLASSIC ON THE COLI TOO. I had to prove him wrong. On another note,it's funny that all the albums have x similar success yet only the east "are cream of the crop ". Guess I'd have to name some blockbuster albums from other regions to be considered CREAM OF THE CROP. and that's my main point

problem is, youre basing success off of numbers that don't even represent the majority of the fans of said east coast rappers.

retail doesn't tell the story of the east coast. this is where you always get tripped up. its a different consumer culture up here.

Naw YOU DONT GET IT.I dont think sales dictate the quality of an album alone anywhere, not just the east. I'm just pointing out that alot of albums from the east thate are called classics, really are regional classics only but have been talked up through powerful east cost media outlets and personalities.

And i'm pointing out that it's ironic THAT ONLY ON THE EAST can you have mediocre success yet have a official classic that everyone is supposed to accept as a non regional classic.

If i name a gold album from ANYWHERE but the east and say it's a classic, nikkas will object and be convinced that it was just a regional classic UNLESS it's a wanna be east coast nikka like raskass or common.

Ya'll will be so convinced that a gold album from the east,or one that took several years to go platinum,is some kind of big event but if another nikka from another region does the same thing, then it means nothing and was a regional classic at best.

I'm not saying yall pick and choose off sales. I AM SAYING,due to the blatant hater attitude of the media dj's (not MOST of the fans) etc, particularly back in the days, it takes an outsider to be HUGE in the game for you to even remotely feel the impact of what they were doing. But you guys erroneously think that your experience and views are shared with the world.

You could say i'm wrong but really just chill and ask yourself: "why is it that hardly any albums outside the east, are called classics (on here) unless they had major success or came from deathrow/ruthless"?
