problem is, youre basing success off of numbers that don't even represent the majority of the fans of said east coast rappers.
retail doesn't tell the story of the east coast. this is where you always get tripped up. its a different consumer culture up here.
Naw YOU DONT GET IT.I dont think sales dictate the quality of an album alone anywhere, not just the east. I'm just pointing out that alot of albums from the east thate are called classics, really are regional classics only but have been talked up through powerful east cost media outlets and personalities.
And i'm pointing out that it's ironic THAT ONLY ON THE EAST can you have mediocre success yet have a official classic that everyone is supposed to accept as a non regional classic.
If i name a gold album from ANYWHERE but the east and say it's a classic, nikkas will object and be convinced that it was just a regional classic UNLESS it's a wanna be east coast nikka like raskass or common.
Ya'll will be so convinced that a gold album from the east,or one that took several years to go platinum,is some kind of big event but if another nikka from another region does the same thing, then it means nothing and was a regional classic at best.
I'm not saying yall pick and choose off sales. I AM SAYING,due to the blatant hater attitude of the media dj's (not MOST of the fans) etc, particularly back in the days, it takes an outsider to be HUGE in the game for you to even remotely feel the impact of what they were doing. But you guys erroneously think that your experience and views are shared with the world.
You could say i'm wrong but really just chill and ask yourself: "why is it that hardly any albums outside the east, are called classics (on here) unless they had major success or came from deathrow/ruthless"?
