No talk of Louisville KY?

If it wasn't for the stranglehold The University of Louisville got on the Yum Center, the Grizzlies would be there instead of Memphis.

Kansas City may have the Sprint Center but they couldn't support the Kings when they were in town and they're more of a college basketball/ NFL city anyway. That's why they built the arena for bball tourneys and to try to lure a NHL team .

Vegas is the sexy choice but let's see how they handle hockey first with the new arena they're building.

St Louis??? :ld:

But I see Seattle and Louisville getting a team next in a perfect world.

Louisville actually makes more sense than any city on the list except for Seattle. And I'm not just saying that because I live there.

The Yum Center is a better arena than any current gym in the NBA (I say that having gone to every NBA arena built or renovated within the past 10 years), Basketball is all people care about here, and there's no pro competition in the market.

The only problem is the University of Louisville has been actively cock blocking the NBA for the past 15 years.

When the Hornets and Grizzlies were first relocating around 2000-01, Louisville was considered the front runner to land the franchise on both occasions. At the same time this was happening, the Louisville city and county governments were in the middle of merging. Alot of city officials that were involved in the relocation negotiations knew that within a year, they wouldn't have jobs because of the merger. The University of Louisville offered a few of the city officials jobs on the university board that came with six figure salaries. The positions were pretty much no show jobs where they just had to go to a meeting once a month. In return, they asked that they see that the NBA didn't move to Louisville. During the Grizzlies relocating, the details of Louisville's bid got leaked to Memphis before Louisville could even present it to the NBA. Memphis was able to counter the offer before Louisville could even give it.

When the Yum Center opened, The University signed a CRAZY contact with the arena when they agreed to be a main tenant. The University gets a cut of ticket sales and concessions for EVERY event held in the Yum Center. Concerts, the fukking circus, and, yup, NBA games. They did this intentionally to deter any NBA team from ever moving here. No NBA team would ever play in an arena under those circumstances.

So the common thought has always been that if an NBA team were to move here, the University of Louisville would have to redo their contract with the arena. But who the fukk would redo a contract that will cost them millions of dollars, and bring in a pro team for them to have to compete with for corporate dollars?

It's because of this that it's highly unlikely Louisville ever gets an NBA team, even though it would be a perfect spot.

Vegas would be dope but has too much fukkery.

You can't expand one conference so Seattle for the West and KC or Cincinnati for the East. I really wish my home state Jersey still had a team though. We can't have shyt.

I would love for St. Louis to get an NBA team, but I don't think we have the economy to support 4 pro teams. Wouldn't mind the Blues getting the :camby: but they have too much local support for them to get kicked out for an NBA team.

Kansas City.

Baltimore? Sheeit they are right next door to DC, they got a team.

Las Vegas? There's too many things to do there.

Vancouver? They already tried this. And Canuckas got money and nothin' else to do
and they STILL didn't come to games. Also, Canada sucks.

Seattle? Look Seattle, you lost, mayne.
Let The Lox go.

Cincy? Feels wrong.

Norfolk? Nah.

Pittsburgh? Ehhhh...Pittsburgh doesn't seem like the kinda town that's really into...basketball.
If you know what I mean.

Nashville? See "Pittsburgh".

Why do we always focus on cities inside the US first when we do this expansion shyt? Why not Mexico City or Montreal as first options? Like has already been said, the point should be to expand the game across the world not just down the highway. I voted Vegas since that has always been sort of a taboo city for pro sports but fukk it, get a team in a new country
Forget about Mexico City (Montreal too for that matter, but especially Mexico City).

Those are their "international" spots they wanna use along with London to showcase growth and shyt.

Air quality in Mexico DF sucks, nobody would go besides it being a novelty act, and El Chapo ain't building some state of the art arena for something nobody would go to on a regular basis. Until further notice, Mexico City is just that spot where the T'Wolves have a home game

Montreal is gonna be the trendy choice because they may get the Rays one day and they go hard for their teams (when they do support), but tapping into Canada again is not something I see the league wanting.

That's all well & good but I thought it was because the city of Louisville & the state of Kentucky don't have the economy to support a pro team. No offense but I don't see a pro team playing in Louisville b/c the market is too small, not because of an unfavorable tenant agreement

@tremonthustler1 we'll see. Seattle is probably the most likely destination but they're still don't have a new arena. These other cities with great arenas like KC, probably don't have the economy to support another pro team either. I'd like to see Vegas but their arena is outdated too so it might be a minute before we see any real expansion movement

The only city that doesn't have a NBA team that really wants one is Seattle.

but unfortunately their never gonna get a team back because theirs more valuable to the nba as a pawn for cities looking for new arenas and threatening to move the team their until they get a new arena

Louisville's bigger than 3 current NBA cities (SLC, NO, Memphis) and Louisville, Lexington and the Northern Kentucky area outside of Cincinnati all have strong economies. The city is equipped to support it.

City size isn't the only factor in determining if a city/region can support a pro team. Corporate sponsorships, season ticket base are other important factors as well...I've never heard of any pro team in any sport consider Louisville before and it's probably because of a lack of those resources to really support a pro team. I'm sure Louisville is a great city, but I think there are more factors at work than just bad lease deals

I actually would like to see this but it wont happen those cities would be at several distinct disadvantages when you think about distance and the fact players wouldn't want to play there for the most part.
