i disagree with fantano a lot, but his break downs are the best :manny:

dehh goes pretty deep but they hardly put anything out anymore

:what: since when did people really think it was ghost?

if you haven't, check out sandurz beat breakdowns :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

recently its been a lot of kanye which im not mad at but his older videos are my favorite

man i swear it was like every other day someone would post "OOOOOH shyt GHOSTFACE JUST ETHERED DRAKE...OVO VS WU 2016!!" .. they didnt even notice Bigg Ghost dont even spell his shyt the same...but luckily less and less people are that out of the loop at this point...

Fantano though I just hate him. I cant look at the guy for more than 25 seconds. His lack of soul is painful and I just cant take his reviews serious at all. He's just attaching any number that will piss off enough people to hit play and thumb up/down.

i used to fukk with them but they hated almost everything for a minute..they can be funny as hell, but if it ain;t kendrick or some b-level rapper they ain't fukking with them.

To be honest..... everyone.

The purpose of reviews are for me to see if something is worth listening too or to see other people's opinions on music. The first is obvious and mostly for artists I don't know or rock with, the latter it's in the hope that I might learn something.

If The Coli seems to be hyping about something i'll check it out.

If an album in a genre I enjoy gets Best New Music at Pitchfork... i'll check it out.

There's nobody I tend to agree with. I like how Fantano describes music, how he looks for themes, looks at music as an overall package. But I don't agree with most of his opinions so rarely watch his videos. Bigghost is entertaining but he likes some awful shyt.

I'm on a hip hop forum. I like discussing music. Reviews are a part of that.

i could see how you feel that. he knows what he's talking about more than most people though. i got put on a few non-rap groups through his reviews

he's not a hip hop head as much as us but i respect his take on music

The Source in the 90s was great.
I used to check out hiphopsite.com.
For the past few years, no one. It seems from the replies to this thread, that there is no universally accepted critic.
I've been blessed by following Coli hype (Killah Priest - PWOWR) :wow:
And burned by it (Common - Nobody's Smiling) :francis:

everyone saying they are the only critics yet these kendrick stans be posting up his review scores as evidence that hes some musical genius in every thread. :mjlol:

:russ: They think I don't notice. Half of these posts got me like :troll: "yeah sure"

I lowkey think the purpose of this thread was to reach this very specific conclusion

:russ: Am I that sinister that I can't just make a thread to ask a simple question?

I won't front - if i'm reading a review on an album I already like... i'm just looking for reinforcement or validation of my opinion.

Some artists never get good reviews.. Ross for example.... in fact.... most trap artists but even then... if the review is mostly positive... you know that album is absolute fire.

I won't lie. I look at Cole's half decent Metacritic score like.. "yep... that nikka hella average."

I look at some of Ye's reviews like "yep... that's my GOAT"

But for someone like Ross who I like more than critics do I cop excuses like "they don't understand street rap and the excitement these lavish fables over this opulent production brings the listener if you aint got no soul".

We all do this breh.

If I trusted the opinion of critics, there's a lot of albums that I think highly of that are garbage according to critics. Stillmatic didn't receive glowing reviews from critics, but there's songs on there that I think are genius. Yet, Street's Disciple has nearly universal praise and I don't think it's anywhere near as good (it's still underrated though IMO). Critics swear MBDTF is one of the GOAT albums, but I don't.

That being said, if I'm really looking for a critical review for an objective opinion, I'd look to Allmusic (I still disagree with a lot of their reviews, but for the most part, I find them to be on point). I still read The Source reviews as well. Other than that, I don't really put too much stock into reviews. My opinion is the only one that counts at the end of the day.

Oh and opinions in general... do kinda matter. It's music, it's subjective. If an artist is revered for long enough - things like "legendary" become as close to a fact as possible.
