The love Kobe got was so organic. Despite the media having an agenda against him, he was adored by his fans.
LeBron has never had organic appeal IMO. His popularity has been forced by media oversaturation. If you look at China for example where you don't have the American media forcing Bron down their throats, he's no where close to Kobe in terms of popularity.

If Dominique Wilkins not on the list he should be. Know Magic and Showtime were bringing down the house too. Obviously Jordan was box office from the 80's to the 2000's. AI Kobe Shaq along with T-mac for a period were huge draws cause you never knew when they would go off for 50 or more. Nash Amare and the Suns were huge for a period. 2010's gotta include Blake Bron KD Steph and maybe Harden when he's cooking

At the end of the day basketball is entertainment, and those 2 put on a SHOW. What makes a show exciting? The element of surprise and shock. You never knew what they were gonna do with the ball in their hands. Could blow past you and posterize whoever down low. Hit you with multiple pump fakes before launching dead in your face. Could hit you with a fadeaway, pull-up jumper, crazy reverse layups. To me it's no coincidence that two of the most skilled players were also the most exciting. Extremely versatile skillset with an insane ability to hit tough shots. And to top it off, both were extreme killers.
