Song writing and rapping aren't the same. Song writing is your ability to package it. Rapping is your ability to put words together. If they were one in the same, we wouldn't have writers, now would we?

And you don't have to be a great or good rapper to make good music. Hell, Nore had a hell of a run, and he's trash as a lyricist..easily the worst out of his trio. Rick Ross and Fat Joe are solid rappers at best, and have great catalogs. Jimmy's catalog is better than Cam's. Juelz isn't great, but he made good to great music. Aside from Rick Ross (which I still don't understand), no one would ever say that these dudes are elite.
Totally disagree.

This is really the only name mentioned so far that had me do a complete double take.

Did I read this correctly? Planet Asia ain't nice?!? :whoo:

To each his own, but I think that's borderline insanity. With a few obvious exceptions I could probably count on one hand, I think he's the dopest underground MC to come out of the West Coast.

There are a lot of rappers who I acknowledge can spit when truly pressed that I just don't fukk with their music for one reason or another. But one dude I never, ever saw the hype surrounding, even not taking into account his horrible mainstream tracks, was Mase.

Never saw anything remotely ill from this dude. At best to me he could be "aight".

I lowkey want to put Joey Badazz here, but I think he crosses the border of "Nice" and I really enjoyed 1999, but he never really impressed me with what he said

I always felt like he was one of those guys who got the "great lyricist" tag because of the "underground backpack NY" aesthetics more than being clever, thought provoking, intriguing, a good story teller, metc...
remember this is the dude that said "lyrical fajitas" in a verse :aicmon:
there's at least 3 people in his crew nicer than him, and significantly so.
counting CAPITAL STEEZ that makes 4 :francis:

when Joey first came out one of the first songs I heard was "Survival Tactics" and I was :damn:because I thought it was him on the second verse :snoop:
nope, that was Steezy :banderas:
it's literally embarrassing how much better he is than Joey.

even at the the end of Joey's verse before Steez where he's supposed to be "going in" he's saying a bunch of nothing and other shyt that don't make sense :yeshrug:
if anything you could say his entry to hip hop was his zenith and ever since it's been all downhill from there.
first album was aight, then on the second he's wave riding Kendrick
nikka was average to adequate rapping about regular shyt, but when he tried to get all conscious and political it was awkward and it really exposed his deficiencies.
I made sure I downloaded the Steez mixtape and it was :leon:

Drake is the elephant in the room. He was never a lyricist and never nice. Bit his flow and had his bars written. Straight up Create-A-Rapper.

definitely Drake

he has a nice flow, but that's it, and even that gets extremely whinny after a while
no depth in his subject matter
elementary rhymes with an asterisk
