It comes down to who finds themselves in the right situation to win. They'll push the hell out of Luka and Zion and Giannis but unless they get a team around them to consistently contend I don't really see there being a face of the NBA. It'll be like the post Jordan years where popularity will dip for a while. Cause the main thing about Lebron is that he was always in the convo of contending.

I think we'll go into that zone after Jordan left where there wasn't a "face" of the league, but a lot of very good and great players who all filled up the marquee (Shaq, Iverson, Kobe, G. Hill, Vince, T-Mac, all of them). Hopefully it's not one guy who is the focus of the league like it's pretty much been Bron all of these years.

Bron is gonna leave a void when he retires.

Nobody moves the needle like him :yeshrug:

I think Bron is the best player in the league but I never considered him the most entertaining. Him and his game are boring to me. The league can go another direction and be just fine. He just doesn’t move the needle for me at all, I never understood the hype hell still dont

Nah. Its not about LeBron as much as the fact the talent in the league is just worse now. After Jordan left the NBA got lucky that Kobe came up right after him. The void now is more about the lack of talent than LeBron being irreplaceable. Keeping it a buck, LeBron isn't even that exciting to watch. Most of the interest he garners is because of the drama surrounding him than the aesthetic appeal of his game.
Kobe was never the "face" of the league in the same way LeBron and Jordan were though, certainly not from a mainstream media perspective. The ironic part is he was arguably more popular than both of them, at least when you take an international viewpoint of it.

Exactly folks not seeing the big picture. The next guy has to keep his nose clean be charismatic, have a bigger than life personality and live up to the hype, have a long career without their body breaking down and be able to carry the league as the face of the league for years and years and years. Thats why kats like Dr. J, Magic, Bird and Lebron are so rare (I will even throw shaq in there). And the reason why there was a void when they left (not lebron yet).

You just can't duplicate that. A few have reached it like Kobe but even his image took a huge L that he never recovered from with the denver situation and the hit to his marketability.

IMO the league and media will take a huge hit. If you look at the modern NBA the 70s to now. There have only been 5 players who have truly carried the league for extended time as the face of the league. Dr. J, Magic, Bird, MJ and Lebron. Thats its. Even then two of those dudes were on the two greatest and historical teams in the league.

So basically only three dudes have been the face of the league that were not on the lakers or celtics.

Folks talk about luka and zion. But neither has proven that they can create the buzz personality wise to bring in casuals. Luka has a strong accident which doesn't help. And zion is very quiet and shy.

I'm not even talking about his pristine PR and media control.

I'm talking about those youtube highlight mixtapes and other social media bullshyt. Bron didn't have all that and his hype was astronomical

I don't think any one person will have that same hold on the public

The hype is the 30 footers, flashy passes, fadeaways, powerful tomahawk dunks, and chase down blocks he does every other night.

Undoubtedly one of the best showmen in league history willing to take risks to entertain but it’s always a few on the Coli. :mjlol:
