Because I don't give a fukk about popularity contests. and this is what modern rap has devolved into. Which is why the genre is such garbage.

I'd rather have someone come into the genre, drop an amazing slew of records, then fall the fukk off. Than some lame coast along in the genre for decades dropping devoted doo doo. Person A at least raised the bar. Person B does everything in his power to keep the bar low.

We're hip hop fans with memories, not goldfish.

This question would make sense if people still thought 50 was hot and acted like he's still dropping fire. Just like people do with my favorite rapper Nas. They'll overrate his modern catalogue just because he dropped one of the best albums in music history long ago.

What is this, a contest? My nikka, I don't give a fukk. I'm a music fan. I just want good music I can always play.

Gucci has birthed disposable garbage. That's nothing to be proud of. In fact, Gucci hasn't birthed it really. He was just the right nikka at the right time. Lots of external circumstances birthed Gucci and other trash hip hop artists. Jeezy birthed Gucci, yet you're not talking about garbage ass snowman. And when the smoke clears, his legacy is questionable.

Make it clear - I'm not 'hating' on Gucci because he's not lyrical miracle spiritual. I'm hating on him because his music is vapid and dull. There's nothing inspiring about it at all. Doesn't inspire me to dance, to feel, to be bold... nothing. It's just generic ratchet fodder.

fukkem

Again, this isn't a popularity contest and it's pathetic that we're concerned about that in hip hop, as opposed to who has made powerful music. By the way, more people play 50 worldwide than Gucci so even by that metric, you lose. Sure it's his old shyt, but the fact of the matter is that his tracks have more staying power than Gucci.

Gucci just floods the market with crap to keep himself relevant for his fans. He'll fall off completely when most of you grow out of his music or he stops releasing. And he won't be doing shows outside his home state a decade after the fact like 50 is.

Who by the way is doing shows worldwide a decade after the fact.

But you can't take that away from him. that's what's hilarious about this thread.

You're forcing Gucci's legacy, while 50 already has one cemented in stone. There is no comparison.
but 50s music does?

but 50s music does?

Absolutely. 50 rhymes with far more charisma and passion than Gucci. And his beats are more beautiful.

I can't believe I'm having this discussion. I thought this was obvious.

"Many Men" is some inspiring shyt. The whole album is full of that survival-at-all-costs spirit. The idea that you can knock someone down, but you can't knock em out if he/she doesn't wanna go out. I know that was a big part of 50's branding, but in this case, it was conveyed beautifully in the music.

I sit back, twist the best bud, burn and wonder
When gangstas bump my shyt, can they hear my hunger?!

That line, and especially the way 50 delivers it on that beat, is better than Gucci's entire discography. That's art. It has a theme. It makes you feel something.

The fukk does Gucci inspire anyone to do/feel? Where's the passion in Gucci's music? When he has ever released anything inspirational?

no disrespect, you saying a bunch of bullshyt. that line is better than gucci's whole discography, yet i know damn well you ain't listened to enough Gucci to even make a statement like that. you on that music snob shyt. you overrating the fukk outta 50, making it seem like he's done lyrical behemoth, he's not though. it's crazy how you shyt on gucci and praise 50 when their subject matter is virtually the same.

so you're telling me I should waste my time listening to a trash rapper's entire discography, especially when it's clear the trash rapper hasn't ever attempted to step his/her game up?

I haven't even heard 50's entire discography. I don't waste my time listening to weak shyt. Gucci has never shown the aptitude that he can possibly make great music. Because of his market flooding and me trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, I've probably heard 30 songs here and there. All trash.

Subject matter does not make you equal to another rapper. At some point you young cats are gonna figure this out.

Rae and Rick Ross have the same subject matter. One talks about it on a smarter level with far more depth. The other is one of the fakest rappers in hip hop history and a complete caricature. I'll let you figure out who is who.

your whole argument is ignorant. you've heard maybe 30 songs, yet his music is dull, and one 50 cent line is better than his whole discography? :skip: you can't even speak on this subject.

50 and Gucci are way more comparable than ross and raekwon.:camby:

says my argument is ignorant, hasn't offered up a single rebuttal of his own to prove his point.

it's not? :mjpls: you're speaking on a discography while having heard less than 1 percent of said discography.

why do you continue yapping without actually saying anything? Especially when I already answered the "speaking on a discography while having heard less than 1 percent of it" issue.

should have expected it. Some of you Guwop fans are dumb as rocks. I bet you've only heard 1% of 50's discography yet you feel Gucci is superior to him :dead:
