Who is better pharrell or timbaland

People are seriously downplaying Timbaland. Creativity? Versatility? I mean, Timbaland is the same dude who had crickets (among other sounds), stuttering drum patterns, and foreign samples on Top 40 radio. It's the same guy that could go from doing a song like "Promiscuous" for Nelly Furtado to "SexyBack" for Justin to "3 A.M." for Young Jeezy and none of them sounding nothing alike. Not only that, but he produces songs for Duran Duran, Fabolous, and Bjork like it's nothing.

Pharrell because he can play his own instruments, is well versed in music history (he's a Rolodex of music knowledge) and outside of the partnership with Chad, he's never needed help from outside producers.

He gets the slight nod over Tim because of these things. But keep in mind their discographies are very different. Pharrell leans more on the hip-hop side, Tim on the R&B

I still listen to One In A Million and all his earlier to current work, and his production continues to be sick

A lot of the Neptunes production doesn't sound that great like it did when they were hot

The Neptunes possibly have more work with R&B artists than Tim. Like Timbaland, some of their first big production credits were on R&B albums (SWV's first two and 112's debut). A lot of Tim's Hip Hop productions are overlooked where The Neptunes (Pharrell) gets props largely for producing a group with a more street edge in The Clipse.

Pharrell's career as a producer is as a co-producer. The biggest and best beats that Pharrell was involved in were produced with Chad as The Neptunes. Pharrell started out with a co-producer where Timbaland was solo for most of his career.

And smh, listen to Kenna's "Make Sure They See My Face" record if you want to see what Chad brought to the table. I wouldn't be surprised if the Neptunes' trademark sound was mostly his.
