Also, I love Skateboard P, but just because Chad Hugo isn't black and doesn't seek the limelight like Pharrell doesn't mean we can just ignore his contributions lmao.

Chad Hugo is a genius, and I've heard many people say they feel he's actually the more talented half of The Neptunes.

SINY!!
The Neptunes possibly have more work with R&B artists than Tim. Like Timbaland, some of their first big production credits were on R&B albums (SWV's first two and 112's debut). A lot of Tim's Hip Hop productions are overlooked where The Neptunes (Pharrell) gets props largely for producing a group with a more street edge in The Clipse.

Pharrell's career as a producer is as a co-producer. The biggest and best beats that Pharrell was involved in were produced with Chad as The Neptunes. Pharrell started out with a co-producer where Timbaland was solo for most of his career.

I will give this to Tim. He has groomed quite a few talented dudes behind the boards.

Tim did do a good job overseeing Deliverance. I thought it was a great album but a lot of people will never give it it's just due because its Bubba Sparxxx and because he was far from a street act.

I would hope that a Jay/timbo album comes to light one day....not so much for Jay because he's made every kind of record possible, but it would cement Timbos status as a GOAT producer even more.

nikka please. Pharrell and neptunes sound is so outdated is embarrassing. The old nore, phillies most wanted, etc are terrible. Meanwhile, I was listening to the bachelor a few weeks ago and that shyt still sounds fresh even after 16 years

I like both, but you're telling me that Pony doesn't sound dated?

To me it's Timbo, and not even close:whew:

I still listen to One In A Million and all his earlier to current work, and his production continues to be sick:lawd:

A lot of the Neptunes production doesn't sound that great like it did when they were hot :yeshrug:

Exactly, I couldn't have said it any better! :salute:

your bugging if you think thats all he does

D.O.I. - What roles do you and Pharrell play when making music?

Chad - We really don't have a specific role, but Pharrell usually makes the drum patterns since he was a drummer. He also makes most of the melodies for our beats. I sometimes make the melodies as well but I never write the lyrics. As the Neptunes, I'm sort of like a one man band. For instance, if Pharrell comes up with the drums, I either replay the pattern with different sources, or at some live drums to his pattern. Then I add some sounds to the drums and arrange it for it to be mixed.

Like I said..pharrell puts in all the work

Big Neptunes fan but like someone else said earlier, their shyt age terribly...You gotta realize that many super producers seek timbaland to master and mix their shyt, that should say it all right there.

Pharrell's actually much better.

I was just listenin' to Playa's album earlier today, and Tim RULED the late 90's! But his run wasn't as clean as The Neptunes. He stunk it up on some albums, and that run hasn't been as consistent as P's. Once people started bitin' Tim's drums, and he tried to switch his shyt up, he fell off until Danja came through. After Danja left, he fell right back off again.

First off both these guys are incredible, they are the reason i originally got into sound production. Collectively they have made a HUGE influence and made making beats cool if not cooler than being a rapper/singer.

Secondly, those saying Chad Hugo aint puttin' in work are silly. Understanding the nuances of how an instrument is played is incredibly important and can be the difference of a melody/drum pattern pharrel thought of being a hit or a mega hit..... there is footage of justin & pharrell trying to figure out a melody on piano and Chad coming through and crushing the buildings with it.... just a small example. Skateboard P needs Chad as much as Chad needs P.... probably why they are in fact the Neptunes..

now... Timbo V Pharrell

I think Timbo's best work outshines Pharrell's best work by small margin.
Aaliyah's album, Missy classics.

I think Pharrell got him if you compare a lot of the work done by artists that they've both done production for.

JT, Jay-z come to mind, but even that is a small margin.

Overall sound, I gotta say Timbalands drums knock ridiculously hard while Pharrell brings that funk & his melodies are fukking outrageous.

Creativity = tie
body of work = Timbo
versatility = pharrell
current stature = pharrell

I want to call it a tie if it's strictly beatmaking/ production, if you had a gun to my head i'd say pharrell though.

If you gave each an hour in their own studios to compose a beat, who do you think would come out with the doper shyt? I'd be inclined to say Timbaland...
