While I agree with you for the most part nerd is also used as another word for smart. That's why the stereotype of the nerd used to be some cat looking like Urkel with pants hitched up to his chest. That's a part of it but I also agree with you people should know what its used as going by context. Most times when cats call people on here nerds they're doing it from that socially awkward pov not the you smart pov.
Nerd (adjective: nerdy) is a descriptive term, often used pejoratively, indicating that a person is overly intellectual, obsessive, or lacking social skills. They may spend inordinate amounts of time on unpopular, obscure, or non-mainstream activities, which are generally either highly technical or relating to topics of fiction or fantasy, to the exclusion of more mainstream activities.
Nerds in theory are "smart" to the point where they are comically idiots as they are so socially awkward that they can't even apply the knowledge.
An Anti Intellect and a Nerd are both buffoons.
Like I said, we have to end this correlation that smart = nerd when they are not 100% exclusive to each other. A Nerd is someone so obsessed with something they are socially awkward.
You have tons of people throughout history who were intelligent and had discipline that were not socially awkward. This is where I`m going with this.
People re trying to pull the "nobody messes with me because I`m smart" card when its really nobody messes with you because you are awkward to the point where one may have to question your mental state.
Like I said I know tons of people who enjoy unpopular things but would not be considered nerds.
