Exactly. Like I went to HS with dudes who had drug and murder chargers but still enjoyed Dragonball Z. People use the Nerd thing as "you guys dont rock with me because I`m just so dedicated to my work and you guys aren't". Hell its even more evident in College where you have "popular" people who are popular because they are making moves, getting good grades, and involved in athletics or student organizations.
Believe me I know breh we went to the same high school

These people use that excuse to feel better about themselves

Yea we need to dead it because this is what "Creates" more generations of people not wanting to be smart or at least trying to excel in one thing and being sociable. I think the lack of seeing on point Black people in the media or even in the home hurts kids growing up. Like Straight up when I saw Malcolm X for the first time in the 90s as a kid Denzels portrayal really stuck with me when it came to being an On point intelligent black man. When I got to College I literally studied Malcolm, Khalid Muhammad, and Farrakahns oratory skills in how to speak loud, clear, and concise, because Black people love to do the whole "You talk white" thing but even then I think that comes from tonal characteristics opposed to speaking clearly and properly.

my high school was crazy though. Ultra competitive everyone was focused on academics.
It was a boarding school too so later as I was in close quarters with the guys who were top five I saw these guys actually had longer days in order to spread the work load of what they needed to learn and they didn't kid themselves like oh I got that information down. It'd be you sit on it till you get it. and they'd have group discussions so someone else smart would explain it to you. also it was division of labor. each dude would learn specific subjects then explain the essence of it to others. That shyt made it easy I'd just coast based off their genius.

you should look into the 25 rules of a disinfomationist

vigilantcitizen.com/latestnews/the-25-rules-of-disinformation/

and also neuro linguistic programming for the mechanics of what goes on in debates and speeches

Because the media tells us so:what:

If u an 80's baby you know Family Matters, Saved By the Bell and Ninja Turtles were 3 of the most popular shows we watched. All 3 featured an extremely smart "nerd": Urkel, Screech and Donatello. So growing up, we mostly correlated nerds to be the smartest person in the room.

I can tell your socially awkward becAuse you're so passionate about da subject.

Nerd is a relative term. When people say nerds do better in the long term they're referring to people who sacrificed their social life to achieve their goals.

The nerds on those shows were the dumbest people in the room.

An intelligent person isn't blowing up peoples houses and crap lol a socially awkward weirdo does though.

Being a Nerd has nothing to do with Academics.

Nerd is a title given to socially awkward people, people assume these folks to be smart.

Doing what your suppose to do does not = being a nerd. We need to dead this crap.

Anytime you see nerd used it is for someone who is so involved in something that they are awkward. Being Book Smart is only one portion of being intelligent also. Lot of these so called nerds be dumb as rocks to common sense type things.
While I agree with you for the most part nerd is also used as another word for smart. That's why the stereotype of the nerd used to be some cat looking like Urkel with pants hitched up to his chest. That's a part of it but I also agree with you people should know what its used as going by context. Most times when cats call people on here nerds they're doing it from that socially awkward pov not the you smart pov.

Not true at all. The social etymology of the word nerd does have a direct correlation to academics. The phrase as we know it was popularized at MIT. It was seen as a derogatory shot at the math "nurds" at the university, The phrase nerds does have a start in Academics. Dismissing that is ignoring history here. It was givin to the socially awkward at MIT, but those students were the smartest students.

Your statement " Doing what your suppose to do does not = being a nerd. We need to dead this crap".

Is legit, but it's not realistic. Theres a reason there's a thing in college called

Summa Cum Laude
Magna Cum Laude ( We in here)
Cum Laude

And in high school there's
Valedictorian
Salutatorian

Not everybody is doing this. You can blame tons of reasons. Social economic reasons, peer pressure to not be cool, etc and etc. but not everybody is in the same box right now.

Finally what is your definition of awkwardness? You say nerds are labeled as awkward. What do you mean? Playing Yugioh or Pokemon? Playing dungeons and dragons? Not being coordinated? Wearing glasses? Wearing pocket protectors? If you're going to use the mainstream social definition of awkward for nerds, why can't the intelligent points apply as well?

But I will admit a lot of high academic people, do struggle with common sense. That's legit!!

This even thighs I agree it can be used to mean more than just book smart too

No they weren't the dumbest in the room. What versions of the show did you watch? Now they might not have had common sense but book smart what most people talk about when saying someone smart they and that.
